How HANA Keeps Business up to Speed in the Face of Rapid Change
By Erik Lillestolen - SAP HANA Product Marketing Manager
Business is changing fast.
Last year it was ok if you reported inventory stocking levels once a week, or your promotional sales figures daily. Not this year. Reduced IT budgets and increased competitive pressure require flexible and nearly instant access to transactional data at the department level – a need that cannot be fulfilled with yesterday’s technology. Furthermore, the Instant-On Enterprise requires a foundation for agile service delivery.
HP and SAP are working together to introduce the High Performance Analytic Appliance, or HANA. HANA is based on in-memory database technology that accelerates business intelligence dashboard creation and report queries by orders of magnitude. This appliance based solution extracts data from transactional databases and Enterprise Data Warehouses, translates and loads the data into the in-memory database, and presents this data to the analytic tier via standardized connector protocols. Department managers, analysts, and product managers now have the ability to create dashboards and queries on the fly that utilizes the data in the in-memory database, alleviating the need to engage IT to create rigid, standardized reports. This saves cost and time.
HP is introducing the HANA solution on the new HP ProLiant DL580G7 and DL980G7 servers. This server selection enables the contiguous use of up to 2TB of memory, supporting large databases without the overhead of a cluster management solution. These strong hardware platforms are joined by HP’s Business Intelligence Services and Technical Support Services.
The Technical Services offerings are specifically designed to provide customers the solution support they need for development, sandbox and production environments. Customers can now receive end to end solution support from one company.
HP’s Business Intelligence Solutions are offered with the same solution centric view as the Technology Services. These BI solution offerings are designed to help the customer identify the business opportunity, quantify the benefit, develop and deliver the solution, and ensure an excellent engagement experience.
Right now, you may be asking yourself if this solution is for you. Learn more about today’s announcement of this solution offering from HP, see our earlier blog discussions and read our October 19 press release regarding our Converged Infrastructure and planning services for HANA.
Come back to this this space for more information in the next few weeks, and watch for more HANA announcements at the SAP TechEd event in Shanghai December 1 through December 3.
