Increased ROI with always-on virtualized SAP systems
By Jodie Jordanger, HP CloudSystem Solutions for SAP Landscapes
It’s no secret that companies are looking for virtualized solutions to enable server consolidation, reduce TCO of their IT assets and allow business-critical systems to react faster to market opportunities and changing business needs.
Working closely with SAP and VMware, and building on key elements of our Converged Infrastructure, HP has developed and validated a disaster-tolerant SAP solution which can help you achieve a significantly higher return on your investment by enhancing storage utilization and reducing planned SAP application maintenance downtime.
The solution, suitable for large installations, allows customers to deploy advanced VMware vSphere functionality - High Availability (HA) and Fault Tolerance (FT) - to take full advantage of the disaster-tolerance delivered by HP LeftHand storage. The HP LeftHand storage family perfectly complements the VMware suite virtualization features, integrating out-of-the-box readiness, simplicity and robustness without introducing complex storage configuration methodologies
The combination of HP LeftHand storage and HP ProLiant servers allows a disaster-tolerant SAP system to scale from entry-level LeftHand Virtual SAN Appliance Software (VSA) to a LeftHand P4300 G2 SAS Starter SAN to an enterprise-class P4500 G2 SAN, and to scale from a single HP ProLiant DL server to a multi-blade HP BladeSystem configuration, until the resource limits of FT-protected virtual machines (VMs) are reached.
The following HP technical whitepaper Always-on virtualized SAP systems with HP LeftHand storage for VMware vSphere 5 describes the solution in more detail and is targeted for IT organizations that administer SAP applications. Check it out and learn more about virtualization and protection of SAP systems using vSphere 5 software in conjunction with an HP hardware platform.
