Network availability improved from 80% to over 99%: Converged Infrastructure Customer Showcase

show case pict.jpgCustomers are gaining the benefits of HP Converged Infrastructure to accelerate time to business value. Although many of our clients are making big moves to data center convergence with our HP Converged Systems, most clients are gaining ground on the high cost and complexity created by IT sprawl through a project-based approach by deploying newer technologies all designed for convergence. This is the case with our current customer showcase: St Andrew’s Healthcare that deployed HP Networking technologies.

 

St Andrew’s Healthcare, the UK’s largest not-for-profit mental healthcare charity, needed a reliable and scalable network infrastructure to link several hospitals, ensure access to business-critical applications, enable the deployment of new technologies, and support business growth.

 

With these goals in mind, St Andrew’s Healthcare engaged Comtact Ltd, a leading IT and communication solutions specialist, to provide network infrastructure consultancy and design services. Based on Comtact’s recommendations, the healthcare charity selected switches offered by HP Networking. The solution linking the hospitals includes four HP E8212 zl core switches with built-in redundancy, HP E6200 yl distribution switches and more than 300 HP Networking intelligent edge switches.

 

The HP Networking solution delivered a wide range of benefits, including:

  • A reliable infrastructure that links all the UK hospital sites, boosts network availability, and allows better access to business-critical systems and applications.
  • An increase in network availability— rising from 80 percent to over 99 percent.
  • High availability to clinical systems ensures medical staff members have immediate access to patient information and prescribed treatments while safeguarding patient care.

Campbell brings more than 25 years of enterprise and midmarket industry marketing experience to this leadership team, with a proven track record spanning software, networking, services, PCs and systems, as well as deep channel and regional expertise. Campbell’s prior appointments were vice president of marketing for Adaptive Infrastructure and prior to that, the vice president of marketing for HP StorageWorks. He was responsible for advancing the market position of HP’s storage area network, network-attached storage, information life cycle management, near-line and storage management software offerings through both direct and indirect channels for small, midsize and enterprise customers. Prior to joining the HP StorageWorks team, Campbell was vice president of marketing and business development for First Virtual Communications, a world leader in providing easy-to-use, integrated rich media communications solutions. Before that, he was the principal and a founding member of Adjunct Consulting, where he helped incubate a SAN-management-over-IP startup and developed transformational business strategies for his other client companies. Campbell was formerly with HP from 1986 to 2001 in various marketing director roles spanning workstations, software, networking, PC servers and Intel servers. He also served as worldwide director of marketing for channels, alliances and partners. Born in Rochdale, United Kingdom, Jagger holds an honors bachelor of science degree in economics and a degree in social psychology from Loughborough University, England.
