By Doug Small – Director, HP and Microsoft Infrastructure-to-Applications Business

It’s a worrying statistic that only 32 percent of application deployments are rated as “successful” by the business.  Applications can be complex to get up and running, taking many months to roll out. They can also be complex to maintain and integrate which leads to missed deadlines, incomplete projects and increased costs.

On June 6th, 2011 we extended our portfolio of HP AppSystems which we have co-developed with Microsoft.  These solutions break down the complexity of traditional approaches to deploying and operating applications.

HP AppSystems are complete, pre-integrated solutions that are tuned and optimized to deliver maximum performance for a single application or a suite of applications for business analytics, data management, and collaboration. This optimization helps your IT organization meet deadlines, get projects completed on time and keep costs under control.

HP AppSystems are built on Converged Infrastructure and integrate easily with your existing environment. They’re based on best of breed technologies from business critical applications, through to industry leading servers, storage and networking, and they can be managed from a single console.  Rather than one size fits all, each solution in the HP AppSystem portfolio is designed and optimized to do a specific job, meaning you get the best performance for each application area.

The HP AppSystems portfolio includes solutions for business analytics and reporting to accelerate decision making from months to minutes, data management to help simplify and accelerate data capture, and collaboration to help connect organizations to information, customers, partners, and each other.

The new solutions within the HP AppSystems portfolio announced on June 6th include:

  • The HP Business Data Warehouse Appliance.  We are excited about this new solution as it reduces the complexities and costs faced by many midmarket and enterprise departmental clients when deploying data warehouses.  We are making available the business benefits of data warehouses to a new group of customers, where in the past price and complexity inhibited adoption.  The HP Business Data Warehouse Appliance is a high performance, affordable and easy to deploy solution for clients requiring better insight and consistent access to their business data.  Together with Microsoft we are bringing a new level of integration and simplicity for data warehouses.

  • The HP Database Consolidation Solution optimized for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 is addressing a key customer request.  Due to the popularity of Microsoft SQL Server, customers are finding they have hundreds or even thousands of databases distributed across their organizations.  Customers are asking HP and Microsoft for a prescriptive, verified, highly tuned solution to consolidate and virtualize their Tier 2 and Tier 3 Microsoft SQL Server databases.  This co-developed solution reduces complexity and mounting costs associated with the proliferation of SQL server data bases, while enabling applications to access enterprise-wide data. It consolidates hundreds of transactional databases into a single, virtual environment, eliminating server sprawl and simplifying management of virtualized infrastructures.

These two new offers extend the existing range of solutions HP and Microsoft have co-developed within the HP AppSystem portfolio.  Existing solutions which are part of the HP AppSystems portfolio are:

  • The HP Business Decision Appliance is the first self service Microsoft SQL-based Business Intelligence appliance that empowers a new class of business users to run their own BI queries against massive databases, with known tools such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft SharePoint.  Customers are finding they can deploy this solution in days rather than the months required for alternative solutions.

  • The HP Enterprise Data Warehouse Appliance optimized for SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse is the industry’s most scalable, highest performing and easiest-to-deploy data warehouse for Microsoft SQL Server.  We are seeing 10x to 40x to 100x faster queries, and we can now scale Microsoft SQL Server Enterprises data warehouses by 10x, up to 500 TB.

  • The HP E5000 Messaging System for Microsoft® Exchange Server 2010, which integrates servers, storage, operating system software and Exchange 2010 configuration wizards into a single, converged solution. This enables IT to speed deployment by 75 percent and support users with larger mailboxes at a lower cost per user.

You can find some great information about the whole of the HP AppSystem portfolio including videos and further blogs specific to each solution, so please take a look and let us know your thoughts.
