New HP announcements are a big deal for Big Data - day one of Discover Frankfurt
It took me a while to get over just how big the venue is for HP Discover in Frankfurt this year – I’ve walked an Olympic distance so far... There are a ton of solutions for customers to see from HP and its partners, and none more so than those we have which address the customer challenge around Big Data, which were revealed to customers today in Meg Whitman’s keynote.
We made a new Converged Storage announcement yesterday to the press, and it’s exciting stuff, snappily tag-lined as ‘Polymorphic Simplicity’, which in a nutshell means we’re now taking a single approach to, and offering major advances in, primary storage, information retention and analysis and information protection. This helps customers to leave behind the 20-year-old designs found in many of the enterprise storage systems available from our competitors today, which are no longer appropriate for today’s demands from virtualization, cloud and Big Data.
Meg also referred to today’s announcement of a next-generation information platform and new HP solutions that help customers make business-critical decisions faster and more easily. The HP AppSystems for Big Data uniquely enable customers to build an end to end analytics platform to understand, manage and act on 100% of unstructured and structured information and include:
- HP AppSystem for Apache Hadoop which delivers industry leading Hadoop performance (3.8X faster than the equivalent Oracle solution) enterprise readiness with unique complete, unified, and simplified management, and accelerated deployments through a pre-tested, factory integrated solution based on HP and Cloudera best practices.
- HP AppSystem for Vertica Analytics Platform, for real-time analytics performance, purpose-built to handle the volume and velocity of today’s ‘Big Data’ workloads
- HP Autonomy eDiscovery Appliance which provides a complete solution for eDiscovery, delivering a central platform for conceptual and keyword searches of thousands of types of documents and enables 80% or greater cost savings compared with legacy eDiscovery approaches.
There ‘s been a lot of discussion with video and audio resources for you to take a look at which I’ll post in the days and weeks ahead, but for now I’d recommend that if you’re not at the event, you follow what’s going on with the Discover and @hpconverge Twitter feeds and also check out some of the live streaming from the home page.
More to come tomorrow folks!
