Private Cloud via HP Converged Infrastructure – Foreshadowing the blue skies ahead

A few years ago, Cloud Services was mired in fog and drizzle. Some vendors rashly tried to be first in only to get all wet. It’s no wonder the topic of Cloud has mixed trust and vague notions. Cloud believers should take notice. With the developments in Converged infrastructure and new software and services, we welcome our trusted clients to the future of Private Cloud, today. And to keep you informed, we have planned a series of Private Cloud topics ... starting with this overview and areas to explore while at VMworld.

A little about us ...

This is not a quick entry for HP. In fact, it’s just the opposite. We have quietly been pioneering and championing the underpinnings in Cloud technologies and have been helping customers capitalize on cloud for several years. We focus on Private Cloud (or internal cloud) because most enterprises want the attractive characteristics of public cloud services with the security, transparency, governance, and control of internal IT. This lets CIOs accelerate the deployment of service-oriented environments ... today ... that match the speed, flexibility and economics of public clouds but without the risk or loss of control.

Think about the fundamentals ...

From an HP perspective, it starts with the base building blocks delivered by the HP Converged Infrastructure. This establishes the virtual pools of resources that are connected through a flexible fabric with automatic provisioning via a portal. This is important because having the right core technology makes the other critical requirements achievable. For example:

  • Self service delivery ‘on demand’ is the most fundamental element of cloud computing
  • Single governance and security needs to be well managed to minimize business risk
  • There must be automated metering and chargeback capabilities
  • Scalability for many different levels of availability must be instantaneous
  • Business applications with templates and pre-built services are crucial
  • Open integration and extensibility is a must to integrate with the rest of enterprise IT

Next, don’t miss HP at VMworld.

  • HP Cloud Advisors are available in the HP Booth Tuesday August 31st at 11:00 a.m. and in the HP Cloud
Assessment Room from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday August 31st and Wednesday September 1st
  • HP Cloud Boot Camp Thursday September 2nd 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. (See the eWeek article by Jeffrey Burt)
  • Not able to make it, follow the buzz on: www.hp.com/go/vmworld-buzz AND check back to the HP newsroom
over the next week or so to see all the cool new offerings. Things like:
         - The industry’s first solution for deploying an open and flexible private cloud environment fast
         - HP BladeSystem Matrix enhancements to provision complex environments in minutes
         - Innovations to significantly speed application deployment and reduce risk by providing engineered,
           tested and proven configurations.
         - Easier, automated HP Storage and Matrix ... and an easy-to-use navigation system to build your
           own service catalog quickly.

Finally, create a short-list of valuable information and tools...

I know there is a lot to absorb, but we think you will be pleasantly pleased with how HP can bring the value of Private Clouds to your business.

Thanks,

Russ
