Provisioni ng services 50% faster / database queries in <15 millisecon ds—HP Converged Infrastruc ture
All indicators are that infrastructure convergence came into its own during 2011—top Analysts evangelize it, leading technology providers sell it, and, most importantly, businesses of all sizes are benefiting from it. Because of this, my predication is that 2012 will become the era of innovation. In other words, those that continue to capitalize on convergence will be able to apply more time and resources to IT and business innovation—those that have not will be at a disadvantage and most certainly will lose their strategic edge.
The proof is in the pudding:
For me, one of the best ways I know to demonstrate this value is by showcasing real customers deploying Converged Infrastructure technologies and solutions that accelerate their innovation. Therefore, I am initiating our 2012 Customer Showcase series with the HP solution implemented by the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH). I chose this customer because they consistently ranked among the top hospitals in the country as well as being internationally respected for overall clinical excellence and exceptional medical specialists. Call it my ‘feel good’ story.
Overview:
UCH previously maintained their vital information in several electronic medical record (EMR) systems that were not well integrated and could not communicate with one another without time-consuming workarounds or expensive interfaces. The hospital decided to undertake a multi-million-dollar overhaul of these information systems to simplify patient records and administrative functions and speed data access across all hospital departments and ambulatory clinics. To do so, UCH selected EpicCare EMR software as the integration vehicle and, for the Epic software, they chose HP Mission-critical Converged Infrastructure products – including HP Integrity BL870c and BL860c Server Blades and the HP-UX 11i v3 High Availability Operating Environment (HA-OE), backed by an HP Proactive 24 Always-On Service.
“We chose HP Integrity server blades and HP-UX 11i v3 to give
us the most redundant, most resilient, mission-critical platform for
the hospital, as Epic is truly a mission-critical application for us”.
Derived benefits:
- Improved care with secure, quick access to all of a patient’s medical records via one integrated system
- Transacts database queries in 15 milliseconds or less, providing quicker data access across all hospital departments
- IT staff can provision services 50% faster for quick response to the hospital’s changing needs
- Increases IT department’s server-to-administrator ratio by 35%
- Ensures continuous system availability for patient care with failover in 30 minutes or less
- Lowers power and cooling costs by 25% through the modular HP bladed architecture
- Protects integrity and availability of critical information with disaster recovery and redundant server components

Let’s have a great year,
