Software-defined Data Center: What it is and why it matters

One of the best definitions of Software-defined Data Center (SDDC) that I’ve come across is from Helen Tang’s post to this blog in May (While Software-Defined holds the promise of changing everything – you need to do your homework):

“SDDC is where ‘control-enabled’ business applications will influence their own infrastructure based on business conditions; in concert with an application control plane that prioritizes all resource requests. The software defined environment is policy-based and controls virtually all aspects of the data center.”

The potential gains – in agility, cost savings and availability – are very real, but as Helen points out, getting the most from SDDC takes some careful research and planning. If you’re looking for an overview of SDDC and what it can do for your business, check out Chris Coggrave’s video below, recorded at HP Discover 2014 in June.
