Yikes, VMworld is almost here (San Francisco, Moscone Center, August 26 – 30). Last week I posted a blog to make you aware of the many HP activities going on so that you can get a jump on your planning (blog post: It’s not too early to plan your HP/VMware agenda).
In this current blog, I am highlighting many of the HP booth theater presentations delivered by HP Cloud/VMware experts. Of course you won’t have time to attend them all, but I hope this helps you better synthesize your week so that the areas that are most important to you ensure you can exit the show with optimum value.
Personally, I always found the show floor theater presentations valuable because they allow me to ask questions and talk to the experts at the end of each presentation. What’s more, because these sessions are delivered in the HP booth, the referenced HP Converged Infrastructure technology(s) are nearby so you can touch and kick the tires right then and there.
Enough yapping; below is the HP Booth (#1503) VMworld theater presentation list. I apologize that I don’t know the exact day and time for each yet, but I will post it once I get the confirmed schedule:
Your Cloud – Your Way – enabled by HP Education – With the ‘people of the organization’ being key to your Cloud success, you need to make sure they are ready to enable your business to achieve its Cloud objectives – whether it be related to VMware, CloudSystem Matrix, 3PAR, BladeSystem, Virtual Connect, etc. Learn how training and services from HP Education will enable your enterprise to reach the business benefits provided by the HP Converged Cloud strategy.
Accelerate PCI Compliance and Security for the Cloud with HP ESP and VMware – PCI-DSS compliance has long been a top challenge for organizations processing, transporting or storing payment card information and their merchant customers. These solutions have been tailor-made by HP and VMware experts to tackle the number one issue IT decision makers face—simplifying the path to the cloud.
HP Cloud Maps: Learn how to meet cloud application service requests with quality, confidence, and speed! – This demo provides an overview of prepackaged, optimized, tested templates called HP Cloud Maps. Cloud Maps are used with HP CloudSystem and related software to automate the deployment of applications in the cloud in minutes.
Tap into HP’s skilled cloud resources for your dedicated private cloud – Here you will learn how HP CloudSystem with VMware imbedded technologies can deploy your enterprise IaaS, PaaS and SaaS service models. Moreover, if you add ‘HP Enterprise Cloud Services – Private Cloud’ and you can access the benefit of having HP Experts manage it for you so that your infrastructure is always up-to-date and ready for your next opportunity.
Looking for innovation without asset commitment? – This session covers how ‘HP Enterprise Cloud Services – Virtual Private Cloud’ provides what is needed to consume cloud as a service: The storage, server, network and security bundles, virtualization with VMware technologies; how you pay only for the resources you use, nothing more; configure your own Enterprise VLANs and Firewalls; choose between HP-managed and client-managed hardware and software; control costs with our unique purchase ordering system; and more. It’s everything needed to run key applications and securely access them over a network—without investing in assets or processes.
Test drive the cloud - The ‘HP Enterprise Cloud Services−Virtual Private Cloud Proof of Concept’ is a low-commitment way to evaluate cloud computing services in a live environment. Use your own applications and data to assess the value of “IT as a service”. This is not beta test or mock-up; it’s a logically dedicated cloud infrastructure with the same features available to production clients.
Managing HP infrastructure from within VMware vCenter Next Generation web Client – Nearly every VMware implementation uses VMware vCenter to manage the virtual resources. Come hear how HP Insight Control for VMware vCenter seamlessly integrates the manageability features of HP ProLiant servers, HP BladeSystem, HP Virtual Connect and HP Storage into the VMware vCenter console. With the introduction of VMware’s web based Next Generation Client, you will also see how we are integrating into this exciting new UI environment.
Develop your roadmap to the cloud with an HP Converged Cloud workshop - The HP Converged Cloud Workshop streamlines and accelerates your business and technology alignment for a shared cloud understanding and strategy. Learn how this workshop leverages human-sized highly visual displays covering cloud concepts, financials, security, governance and organization, applications, service management and transformation journey topics.
Provision infrastructure and applications in minutes with HP CloudSystem Matrix – If you are just getting started with your cloud technology evaluations, come learn how the CloudSystem Matrix brings together server blades, storage blades, virtualized networking, and software to provision, optimize, and protect infrastructure and basic application services —all in a single, integrated platform ideally suited for private cloud and IaaS implementations.
HP’s Converged Cloud - Power your cloud with Choice, Confidence and Consistency – With today’s world requiring a converged delivery model, sourced across traditional, private and public cloud offerings – one size simply does not fit all. Come hear how HP Converged Cloud is a common architectural foundation across traditional IT and private, managed and public clouds to help you deliver information anywhere, applications anywhere, and infrastructure anywhere for a cloud environment that’s flexible and change-ready — and tailored to your business or agency.
Open, Extensible Service Lifecycle Management for Private and Hybrid Cloud – Whether you’re a business end user, cloud administrator or cloud service designer, this demo will give you a view of how to add capabilities and easily adapt to changing business requirements via a self-service portal and graphical service designer. Experience this highly-automated lifecycle management solution, designed with extensibility and openness to support your heterogeneous environments.
Later this week I will post a blog about the actual booth demos you will see along with some recommended things to ask the demo owner when you are there.

Also, in case you did not see my last blog, below are four recommended HP Breakout Sessions to add to your calendar:
Free Storage! Build Scale-Out Storage Arrays from Space Trapped in Any Server
Breakout Session: (Mon, 10:30-11:30am) – ID: SPO3435
This technical breakout session has a focus on storage. But with cost savings, server capacity optimization, and big data on the top-of-mind topics list, this session is good for anyone in the IT trenches.
Do you have unused capacity in your servers (who doesn’t!)? In this session, you will learn how the vision of Open Storage Federation uses HP VSA to turn internal storage from any server platform into a fully featured scale-out SAN—providing powerful yet low-cost storage for a variety of use cases, from remote offices to private clouds. Hear from storage experts on the technology details and how it has been used by companies to expand their storage infrastructure for free by building software-based storage arrays. See how to create enterprise-class storage from your existing server and virtualization infrastructure—using any server running any hypervisor. During the session, you will also hear from a managed services provider company on how they are redefining their cloud infrastructure to deliver data mobility, scalability and high availability through Open Storage Federation
Bridging The Cloud with Layer 2 Data Center Interconnect
Breakout Session: (Tues, 11-12:00pm) – ID: SPO3436
This is also a technical breakout session and probably best suited for the network specialists in the crowd. However, with Cloud solutions spanning the full stack, anyone operating in the cloud world (or virtualization for that matter) will gain great value in better understanding how HP Virtual Application Networks virtualize the network to align the proper resource for delivering the application.
Legacy network infrastructures lack the simplicity, flexibility and speed that is required in today’s cloud computing environments to dynamically move business critical applications and workload across data centers. With legacy interconnect data center technologies available today, it can take up to weeks/months of re-designing and re-configuring the network that may require more than 100 manual command line entries to connect multiple data centers which can be time consuming and error prone. To address these challenges, HP is expanding its Virtual Application Networks with new innovations for the HP FlexFabric data center solutions that enables IT staff to speed up the connectivity of data centers from weeks to minutes and simplify configuration from over 100 to five configuration steps per site.
