Converged Infrastructure

The TWO BIG takeaways from HP Discover – Be prepared to enter 2013 with the right priorities.

WOW. HP Discover Frankfurt is over, and what a great and productive event it was. I can’t specifically pinpoint why, but a special buzz was in the air. Maybe it was all of the energy being generated by the 9000 plus attendees learning about the big trends and how HP can assist with our HP Converged Cloud solutions and new innovations with HP Converged Infrastructure technologies. Personally, my favorite Discover pastime was speaking with dozens of our customers. And if pressed to whittle these conversations down into two main net takeaways, here’s what they would be:

#1: It’s going to be a hybrid IT world – and our customers know it.

Over 500 business executives were recently surveyed by HP about their IT environment and the cloud. An overwhelming 75% indicated they will have – or plan to have – a mix of private, public, and managed cloud to complement their traditional environment for the foreseeable future. And everyone I talked with had something to say about this – so it might very well become the 2013 trend.

#2:  Cloud can’t be ignored.
As we all experience on a daily basis, our world is very different from the one from just a few short years ago. Everything has changed in terms of volume, velocity, and variety – whereby the big shifts in the industry ... Cloud, Big Data, Social Media, and Mobility ... are all coming together and forming how businesses will operate. Another supporting fact for these shifts is at the recent Gartner Symposium attended by leading CIOs and IT executives, Gartner cited Cloud, Mobile, Social Computing and Big Data tops on their 2013 list.

What this all means is that IT organizations that dilly-dally with their cloud knowledge and decisions most certainly will fall behind. Even worse, these organizations might find their business units going around IT all together – creating organization-wide issues via shadow IT that is inefficient, disruptive, and unsustainable.

All-in-all, I’m excited about 2013 because I feel HP is in the best position to help our customers embrace this hybrid IT environment. We have the well established HP Converged Infrastructure strategy and portfolio that sets the ideal foundation for their traditional IT needs as well as everything cloud.

And for those of you just getting your feet wet, I pulled in three short HP Discover videos that I think provide a great ‘quick-start’ context:

I’m excited about next year because I know HP is able to deliver end-to-end solutions designed to do all the things our customers need. Things like ... control and effectively utilize pervasive mobility, better understand how to capitalize on the cloud, gain control of their complex application environments, get a handle on the huge amounts of information and security risks, and most importantly, accelerate their infrastructure convergence initiatives to gain the clear, exponential value of speed, agility, cost management, and cloud-readiness.

Ultimately, it’s about turning technology into a sustainable business advantage—one that can unleash more innovation and turn information into a machine-like model that gives you a competitive advantage. And if you missed Discover, or want to experience it from the comfort of your own home or office, here are few links that will help:

Happy holidays – see you next year.

Enjoy,

Russ
