Tight integration with OpenStack at #VMworld 2013

On stage at the general session at VMworld today, Kit Colbert, VMware Senior Principle Engineer demonstrated a number of features of VMware’s cloud offerings, in an exchange with Carl Eschenbach where they debated the benefits to the line of business and the IT department.  Net net, there’s a lot of benefit to both...

One of the areas they discussed was their focus on tight integration with OpenStack.  As some customers are interested in an open, standard API and want to be able to choose from a variety of best in class components to build their cloud, VMware will support heterogeneous cloud environments based on OpenStack.

Integration with OpenStack is something HP is working on with our own cloud offerings.

In the afternoon session HP Fellow and Distinguished Technologist, Nigel Cook, talked about how HP is helping drive a more robust OpenStack, how we’re helping add enterprise class support to the open source technology and in the process ensuring more versatility for HP cloud services.

He explained how HP Converged Cloud is based on OpenStack and that this allows users to move cloud applications between HP CloudSystem and other solutions based on OpenStack, which is attractive as it provides more choice.  Because of the support for open standards, customers are able run a hybrid cloud strategy and their applications no longer need to be tied to a particular hardware platform.  It’s another example of HP’s commitment to openness in the cloud space.

You can see Nigel talking to SDR News recently in this video and giving a perspective on delivering a flexible private cloud with HP CloudSystem.

Also, in the video below you can see Andy Schneider from HP discuss how our CloudSystem solutions are engineered to work with OpenStack.
