What’s needed in today’s virtualized environments

IT departments today are faced with growing complexity. They are being asked to help lines of business to respond even faster to changing environments. This often means having to design, purchase and implement new complex infrastructure in very short timeframes.

 

Shorten procurement, implementation and troubleshooting time

 

Since our December introduction of the HP ConvergedSystem 700, the ConvergedSystem 300 and the ConvergedSystem 100 within the HP ConvergedSystem portfolio, the feedback from our customers and channel partners has been overwhelmingly positive. They recognize the business benefits of getting up and running quickly. Customers also recognize the benefits of one source for integrated support that can dramatically reduce the time to repair technology issues, significantly improving service levels.

 

These HP ConvergedSystem products provide a broad set of solutions that cover Hosted Desktop virtualization, Vertica databases and server virtualization that are designed to help shorten the procurement and implementation phases of these projects. To help reduce customers’ time and effort, HP has taken a new approach to the concept of Converged Infrastructure.  Specifically in the server virtualization space, HP teams have worked together with our supply chain, manufacturing, engineering and technical services teams with the goal of reducing the time from order to functional installation of these systems to 20-30 days or less. This combined effort means that the hardware is preconfigured and tested, the virtualization software is preloaded in the factory, and final installation is completed by our technical services team at your site based on the data provided by you at time of order. We have also included our channel partners in this process to ensure you have a choice in your purchasing and delivery process.

 

IDC explains what’s needed for virtualized environments

 

IDC estimates the virtualization market will continue to grow at a rate of nearly 20 percent.  At the same time, servers, storage and networking technologies continue to grow in functionality and complexity. Growth both in the market and in complexity will only increase the pressures on you and your staff as you manage multiple and different applications. According to IDC, what’s missing is focused engineered solutions optimized for virtualized environments.  Jed Scaramella, IDC Research Manager for Servers, has produced a video in which he cites the growing need for a new design point that provides solutions engineered and optimized to meet the virtualization requirements of customers.  He recognizes that HP is gaining a leadership role in the delivery of these solutions that allow customers to avoid virtualization bottlenecks and deliver better business results.

 

Based on our expertise in developing Converged Infrastructure and our experience with customers and channel partners, HP created the HP ConvergedSystem as a complete and extremely efficient system over the entire lifecycle of the product. We will continue to develop new capabilities for these ConvergedSystem products based on new market requirements and additional feedback from customers.

There are numerous studies that indicate the majority of cloud adoption is driven by savvy LOB executives that have pursued independent procurement models -- due to their belief that the IT department can help them (for whatever reason).

 

My point: apparently the shortest buying cycle is possible when the actual cloud service users work directly with the solution vendors or service providers. Moreover, if an when IT inserts themselves into the procurement process that will need to demonstrate that they can add-value to the dialogue. This is not a problem, it's a skills development opportunity for IT teams to become more "business outcome" oriented.
