Tips to manage your converged infrastructure with confidence

Guest blog by Bryan Jacquot, Chief Technologist, HP Converged Systems

As an administrator, your job is to make sure your IT systems are always available.  If you rely on traditional infrastructure management tools, you’re well aware that you are often just one configuration change away from taking down a major portion of your infrastructure.  I had one administrator tell me that deploying certain configuration changes, “Makes me want to cry.”

The science behind the simplicity of HP OneView—Part four

try-it-free-305x246.jpgWe close our series on HP OneView with a nod to the customer input and consultation that went into the product development. HP’s new systems management tool reflects years of collaboration with existing clients, which resulted in an extremely straightforward interface. Here’s what Jeff Carlat, Director of Project Management for HP Converged Systems had to say about the design imperative.

The science behind the simplicity of HP OneView—Part three

try-it-free-305x246.jpgIn this third post in our series on HP OneView, we get into the nuts and bolts of what went into developing HP’s new systems management tool. To get a better understanding of how HP OneView was built (and how to get started) I asked Bryan Jacquot, HP Distinguished Technologist to explain development and deployment. Here’s what he had to say.

The science behind the simplicity of HP OneView—Part two

OV.pngPerhaps the best view of HP OneView is the part you can’t see. HP’s new systems management tool rolls four years of customer input and HP innovation into a solid task-driven package that redefines systems management. To understand the essential differences, I sat in on a briefing by HP Converged System’s Jeff Carlat, Director of Project Management and Bryan Jacquot, Distinguished Technologist.

In this second post in the series, Jeff Carlat how HP OneView was developed around a single question—What’s stopping you from working faster and more efficiently?

Here’s what he had to say.

The science behind the simplicity of HP OneView—Part one

HP’s new systems management tool rolls four years of customer input and HP innovation into a solid task-driven package that redefines systems management. To understand the essential differences, I sat in on a briefing by HP Converged System’s Jeff Carlat, Director of Project Management and Bryan Jacquot, Distinguished Technologist.

In this first post in this series Jeff Carlat covers what makes HP OneView different from other lifecycle management solutions.

Do your infrastructure management tools have you relying on last century’s technologies?

Using a smartphone, you can get directions in just about any well-developed area of the U.S. and then quickly link to online info about your destination (unless you are in the United States National Radio Quiet Zone, in which case you’re stuck with dial-up service).  However in your data center, you use traditional infrastructure management tools -- it’s as if you’ve wandered into that quiet zone and are forced to rely on last century’s technology.

When it comes to infrastructure convergence do you have a best of breed technology blind spot?

Guest blog written by: Scott Wood, Vice President, HP US Solution Architects

In many information technology organizations technologist will often identify their role or position by the technology brand.  There are many reasons why this identification happens. It would be completely natural for people to become defensive and put their positions, jobs, or value to the organization above the solution decision.  This brand bias can lead a company to continue down the best of breed approach in opposition to more important business goals.

Can social collaboration boost IT infrastructure productivity?

Collaboration is key to creative problem-solving.   It follows, then, that infrastructure management tools that make it easier for data center teams to work together could also lead to better problem-solving, and a more productive workplace. When troubleshooting takes less time, that leaves more time for coming up with innovative ways to meet business demands.

Secrets of infrastructure management -- courtesy of more than 150 data center operators

Guest blog by Bryan Jacquot, Chief Technologist, HP Converged Systems

Why would technology companies such as Google and Facebook hire people with degrees in psychology, anthropology, and English?  Because producing appealing consumer apps takes a lot more than just coding. You also have to understand how people communicate, how they use tools, and how they work together. In that vein, HP invested over four years into researching this question: How can we help converged infrastructure management teams work smarter?

Whoever says management software can’t be as collaborative & user-friendly as Facebook is wrong!

Guest blog from Brad Kirby,  Manager, Converged Virtual and Cloud Systems team

Just about every smartphone app I’ve ever used has a friendly user interface that makes it simple for me to do what I want to do, whether it’s keeping up with friends or checking mortgage rates (we’re looking to purchase a house). What if that same ease of use was available when managing your data center?

If you were to time the construction of the HP Performance Optimized Datacenter (POD) 20c/40c in real-time it will take about six weeks. However, the following time-lapse video provides you with an accelerated view (from start to finish) of HP ProLiant Servers being assembled and integrated into an HP Pod.
