HP & VMware deliver strong vision at #VMworld 2013

One of the features of VMworld is the sheer number of experts that customers have access to, providing briefings, one to ones and delivering hands on labs.

I caught up with one of our own experts, Nigel Page, Chief Technologist for HP Converged Infrastructure in EMEA, asked him for some perspectives on the show and I’ll post them in two parts, today and tomorrow.

Tight integration with OpenStack at #VMworld 2013

On stage at the general session at VMworld today, Kit Colbert, VMware Senior Principle Engineer demonstrated a number of features of VMware’s cloud offerings, in an exchange with Carl Eschenbach where they debated the benefits to the line of business and the IT department.  Net net, there’s a lot of benefit to both...

One of the areas they discussed was their focus on tight integration with OpenStack.  As some customers are interested in an open, standard API and want to be able to choose from a variety of best in class components to build their cloud, VMware will support heterogeneous cloud environments based on OpenStack.

Integration with OpenStack is something HP is working on with our own cloud offerings.

Leading cloud, storage and client virtualization solutions from HP at #VMworld 2013

At today’s VMworld general session, CEO Pat Gelsinger gave an overview of the latest VMware offerings from cloud, through software defined storage and networks to end user computing.

One of his points that resonated was how in his conversations with customers, he found they are looking to get cloud management capability from their infrastructure vendors.

What to look for from a Converged Systems vendor at #VMworld 2013

VMworld kicks off for customers on Tuesday 15th October, but today, Monday 14th, it was partner day.

In his presentation Carl Eschenbach, President and COO for VMware, stated one of the first things VMware customers are looking for from partners is converged infrastructure to provide the foundation for their next generation datacenters.

The embodiment of HP Converged Infrastructure is in our Converged Systems portfolio. As there are a number of converged systems offerings in the market, we see a lot of discussion around the best ways to evaluate and choose between them to get the best technology and experience, so I thought I’d give you some of our perspective on the advantages that HP delivers.
