CeNSE and Innovation Come Alive at BIF6

by Ethan_Bauley on 09-21-2010 08:07 PM

HP’s Pete Hartwell spoke at this year’s Business Innovation Factory (BIF6), a conference presenting innovative thinking that spans healthcare, science, art and of course, technology.  Following day one, Pete recounted the energetic atmosphere and collaborative nature of the show – noting that he saw everything from advances in battery technology to cool innovations from kids:

During Pete’s talk about the potential of HP’s Central Nervous System for the Earth (CeNSE), he not only discussed how billions of tiny sensors can be harnessed to improve safety, security and sustainability – he also showed it.  Pete hooked up one of these tiny sensors to his body, showing the audience his heartbeat, breathing and overall movement – all from a device about the size of a pin.  You can see a similar demo – and get a sense for the power nanoscale sensors hold – in a video demo that Pete gave in the HP Labs here:

Pete wrapped his appearance at BIF6 by talking about how the research coming out of HP Labs is going to unlock the next-generation of intelligent solutions.  With CeNSE in particular, he expects to begin seeing innovation in large scale manufacturing facilities, watersheds, forests or other locations where resources need to consistently be monitored to avoid disastrous conditions.
