HP Labs Scientist Honored on Fox News
Influential members of the Hispanic community are being saluted through a special series on Fox News’ Fox & Friends program, including Oscar, Tony and Grammy Award winner Rita Moreno, tennis legend Rosie Casals, and today, a senior researcher from HP Labs, Pano Santos.
Born in Mexico City, Pano contracted polio at the age of three, but did not let that stop him. Passionate about physics and mathematics, he obtained his Master's degree and PhD in operations research and joined HP Labs in 1989, where he now uses advanced mathematical models to help solve real-world problems like traffic congestion and flight delays.
“I work at HP because I know I can use math to make a difference,” Pano said. “It would have been difficult for me to do the work I wanted to do in Mexico, but HP has given me a platform to help solve societal problems on a massive scale through my work.”
Pano also works on behalf of HP to find top talent and new opportunities for collaboration in his native country of Mexico.
Pano has been granted 12 patents during his time at HP, won Mexico's President's Excellence Award, and was also recognized for outstanding technical achievement by the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corporation.
