#CIOchat Recap: What CIO’s need to know about the Internet of Things (IoT)

30-20130728_05_Conference_Room_2R2A1867.jpg“The Internet of Things (IoT) — or machine-to-machine (M2M) technology, as it is also known — is set to boom over this decade and will form a $300B industry by 2020.”  What a shocking statistic from ZDnet! They continue to report research from Gartner: “…the IoT will grow to 26 billion units by 2020, which represents an almost 30-fold increase from 0.9 billion units today. It will result in $1.9 trillion in global value.”

If you haven’t heard of the Internet of Things, I’m sure it has your attention now.

To hear what CIOs and other top thought leaders are saying about the Internet of Things, we tuned into Enterprise CIO Forum’s, #CIOchat hosted by John Dodge (his recap here ) on Twitter March 20th.  Some highlights we found interesting:

What is IoT? Why should the CIO be concerned with it?
