Cloud Computing Strategy Outlined at HP Master the Cloud Event in Montreal

Bon Jour! I am in the Palais des Congress, Montreal in the keynote session being delivered by David Fredrickson, VP/GM, HP Canada.

 

Live from the HP Master the Cloud event, I am discovering many things about HP that I did not know. Just goes to show our breadth of HP coverage in the market and leadership. For example, did you know that HP powers 8 out of 10 of the world's most trafficked web sites, 4 out of 5 of the world's largest search engines and 3 of the most popular social media properties in the U.S.?

 

David provided great insight into the overall HP strategy. He highlighted the rapid rate of adoption of cloud computing by business compared to IT -- 2.5 times faster. Hello IT! You are late! The strategic role of IT is changing as it transitions from the traditional to the private to the public cloud. It isn’t just coincidence that David should talk about Hybrid Clouds in the City of Montreal.

 

David acknowledged the sponsors -- Intel, Microsoft and VMWare -- at the conference, as well as the Cloud Solution Centre sponsors -- RedHat, Citrix, Arrow, AVNet and Bell and pcd Solutions. His stats around CIOs’ concerns punctuated the points I raised in the Top 5 reasons why the CIO is stretched in today's Cloud Computing world:

 

  • 79% of CxOs are hesitant to adopt cloud because of fear of vendor lock-in
  • 75% of CxOs are hesitant to adopt cloud because of performance and availability concerns
  • 70% of CxOs are concerned about security when thinking about the cloud
  • 63% of CxOs are concerned about the integration of various services involved with delivery of critical
