Great Minds Think Alike When Choosing an Applications Outsourcing Provider

By Ashish Chitkara, HP Best Shore Practice Principal - Transition Management

Over the past few weeks I have shared with you my thoughts on the “Top 10 Reasons Why Applications Outsourcing Transitions Fail”“What Makes an Effective Applications Outsourcing Transition Leader” and “No One-team Approach Can Kill Your Applications Outsourcing Transition”.  So you can’t imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to read a recently published report from Alsbridge (who incidentally has just been ranked #1 on the 2011 list of World’s Best Outsourcing Advisers, by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals) that nicely aligns with HP’s transition management practices.

Alsbridge’s report outlines 6 key questions CIO’s should ask before they sign on the dotted line with their chosen outsourcing provider. The questions revolve around key aspects such as transition plans, contract negotiations, references, the team relationship, and pricing.

Alsbridge advises clients to ask for joint success with their provider – a cornerstone objective that dominates HP’s Transition Management approach. Other common themes we both embrace include transition planning - “does the provider have a rock solid plan to effectively and efficiently transition the work?” and having an open, collaborative relationship - “has the provider assigned the right people to your account?” There is also wise guidance around pricing, especially if there is great disparity between two providers.

I encourage you to read Alsbridge’s report and review HP’s Transition Management approach, then judge for yourself.  I think you’ll agree that great minds think alike and great minds want a successful transition for all clients – ultimately that is the measure of a best-in-class applications outsourcing provider now isn’t it?
