Managed storage: The solution to endless growth and demand

By Tim Bowers

Global Product Marketing Manager, HP Enterprise Services

Data continues to be king for enterprise customers. And that king takes up a lot of real estate, growing larger every day and increasing its cost burden on the system that supports it. The storage infrastructure demands of the enterprise are increasing by about 25 percent year over year, creating an urgent need to proactively invest to ensure sufficient storage capacity.

However, investing in storage that won’t be efficiently used is a luxury that most businesses can’t afford. The need for controlled and secure, yet flexible and fast, IT resources to manage, archive and recover data, has led to a demand for a utility-like Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS) model.

iStock_000023980067_ExtraSmall.jpgHP has offered this flexibility to customers for more than 14 years, letting managed consumption offload the weight of an organization’s data storage needs. Moving to a managed storage model eliminates the need to own physical storage assets and while providing an elastic storage environment that always fits the organization’s data needs just right.  Imagine being able to use that freed up capital for new revenue generating projects.

HP recently introduced HP Helion Managed Storage , an as-a-service cloud storage offering that helps organizations save up to 40 percent that provides these features:

  • Private and virtual private storage options
  • Paying for only what is consumed
  • Increasing operational efficiency by leveraging HP global ITIL-based processes
  • Improved quality with ISO certifications
  • Enhanced performance through lean six-sigma processes

It is delivered in a fully managed as-a-service model that insulates customers from unexpected expenditures, as well as ongoing storage administration and maintenance costs. By providing an agile alternative to the need to own and manage storage assets, HP Helion Managed Services lets organizations focus their capital and IT resources to support business goals, no matter if data is housed in an HP next-generation data center, keep it on your premises or move storage to the cloud.  HP also provides a choice of tiers to get the right cost, availability and performance for each application on a price-per-Gigabyte pay model.

HP Helion Managed Storage offerings are unique from other industry services due to the simplification of file management and interface, performance scalability options and availability of backup services for servers and personal devices. Our flavor of STaaS is a more “hands on” approach that offers data management across a hybrid delivery model that spans private, virtual private and public cloud aligned to client application workloads with the customized storage solutions utilizing HP’s exclusive block, file, object and backup services powered by HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage and HP StoreOnce Backup systems.
