The HP Officejet Enterprise: Why it Matters to Your Business

Today we announced our newest Officejet printers—designed specifically to meet the needs of enterprise customers. I know there are skeptics out there—IT decision-makers who don’t think ink is viable in an enterprise setting—even though we know these printers print at twice the speed of laser devices at up to half the cost. 

 

To learn more about what’s driving this innovation in HP’s printing business—and why they want to take on the skeptics—Cara Shockley, Marketing Communications Manager, sat down with Dion Weisler, Executive Vice President of HP’s Printing & Personal Systems Group. Here’s what he had to say:

 

Cara Shockley: First, what is HP announcing today and why does it matter?

Dion Weisler: Today we announced the HP Officejet Enterprise Series, a new line of printers designed specifically to support the needs of enterprise businesses. This series marries the best of two worlds within HP – ink-based printing and enterprise features. Traditionally, enterprises have turned to laser printers when they needed to get the job done. But at HP, we saw a need for faster, more cost-effective enterprise devices in the market. These devices look like laser devices, are just as durable, but print at twice the speed and half the cost. With the Officejet Enterprise X devices, organizations can have all the enterprise features they know and love, but save energy and cut costs.

 

Importantly, these devices are offered through our HP Managed Print Services (MPS) and HP Partner MPS —so we’re able to address the broad needs of businesses and optimize infrastructure, manage print environments and improve workflow.

 

CS: Sounds like quite the printer. What drove the development of this device?  

DW: Well, we always look to our customers first — their needs and business pain points drive what we bring to market.We heard a few things from them.  First, they need durable printing technology that has a low total cost of ownership, and second, they want to print quickly and easily without having to think about technology. So, whether that’s accessing documents from the device or printing from a tablet or smartphone, they want a simple, seamless process.

 

CS: Great. What inspired bringing this technology to enterprises?  

DW: In October 2012 we introduced HP PageWide Technology to small- and medium-sized (SMB) customers with the HP Officejet Pro X Series. This device changed the way these businesses view ink and set new expectations around cost savings, speed and durability in the market. We recognized that our customers needed a faster, more affordable device, and we addressed it. Over the past year, we took that printer from 0 percent to 11 percent marketshare. Because of this success and what it means for our SMB customers, we decided to bring that same, proven technology to enterprise customers. The HP Officejet Enterprise Series is supported by HP PageWide Technology — the same technology that enables the speed and efficiency of the HP Officejet Pro X Series. But with the HP Officejet Enterprise Series, we’ve added enterprise-grade security features, access to more than 150 enterprise printing solutions, mobile printing capabilities and a familiar user interface (same as HP Enterprise LaserJets).

 

CS: What does this mean for enterprise printing?

DW: It means accelerated business processes and high quality print output with a durable device that will save you money. It will enable enterprises to focus on business goals and needs, not the technology that supports it.

 

CS: And what is the significance for HP’s printing business?

DW: It demonstrates our continued focus on the needs of our customers. I’ve said it before, but innovation is thriving at HP. We are investing in technology that helps our customers save time and money. Overall, HP’s business profitability remains solid. We’re on track, and we’ll continue to innovate for our customers. We’re gaining momentum.
