Super Bowl XLV: behind the scenes at the venue

Did you know that Dallas Cowboys Stadium, where this year’s Super Bowl will be played on Sunday:

  • Is the largest domed stadium in the National Football League
  • Has 82,000 seats
  • Boasts 70-foot tall video screens that span the field from one 20-yard-line to the other
  • Provides 3,100 flat screen televisions (with potentially 1,000 additional monitors being added for the Super Bowl)
  • And operates 300 IP security cameras?

It’s big.  Really big.  And yet, with the help of HP, a team of 13 IT specialists run the entire IT infrastructure supporting the stadium, which includes a datacenter with 127 HP Blade Servers and a 100-terabyte storage area network.

According to Pete Walsh, Dallas Cowboys head of technology, it couldn’t be done without the help of HP consultants.  He states in an eWeek.com article, “Our on-site HP consultants are our linemen, our first line of defense.”
