The State of Enterprise Security in the Public Sector Space

By Charlie Bess, HP Fellow

Enterprise SecurityI recently had the opportunity to talk with Betsy Hight, HP’s leader of the Public Sector Cybersecurity Practice. We talked about a number of different areas of security and the impact on governments today. It was a great discussion so I thought I’d share what I learned with you in a series of blog posts, especially since HP just announced a number of activities in cybersecurity.

I started asking Betsy: “There’s been a stream of news about security breaches and how they affect personal lives and businesses. What is the state of enterprise security in the public sector space?”

Combating Enterprise Security Challenges in the Public Sector

LOCK.jpgI received a call from an investigator doing a background check on a colleague of mine who was applying for a job with the federal government. My colleague explained that the background check is a rigorous process that goes on for several weeks. One cannot be too secure in the public sector. Fraud and security violations spread like wild fire across the enterprise of enterprises that makes up the public sector, affecting significant cross-sections of the populace. Critical security concerns in the public sector must be addressed with effective solutions. This week, HP announced several comprehensive approaches to combat such security challenges within the public sector and I’d like to discuss these solutions in this post.
