UPDATED: This blog is no longer maintained as this information has a new home on HP.COM.

The HP custom images are available at software depot.

For ESXi 5.0 There is a 5.0 image and a 5.0 U1 image. They are both available via the link below:

For ESXi 4.1 U2 there is a custom image and it is available at the link below:

Original Article:

Dan Bowers wrote an article a couple of weeks ago on where to get the HP supplied VMware ESX/ESXi install images . Some questions came up about what are the version numbers of the drivers included in these images.  One of my teammates did the research, and came up with this.

Can HP please tell us when BladeSystem DDC/SmartLink support will be baked into HP 4.1 ESXi CDs? Right now the currently shipping driver does NOT support DDC/SmartLink, unlike the previous version of the driver that one could download for 4.0.

David Manconi | ‎10-23-2010 11:59 PM

HI Ken

Thanks for the article with  the driver versioning, very helpful for future reference. Is there a dedicated link where this will be kept up to date as releases of the HP media come out?

Tom Brundy | ‎10-24-2010 10:44 PM

Can you please explain the driver situation with Flex-10 NICs and the support of SmartLink/DDC with 4.1? It seems the drivers HP and VMware include in 4.1 do NOT support this feature. That is a huge problem.

Tom Brundy | ‎10-27-2010 12:47 AM

Can you please comment on the state of the Flex-10 and DDC/Smartlink drivers for ESX 4.1?

Daniel Bowers | ‎11-02-2010 03:08 PM

@Tom Should have an updated 4.1 driver to address that within next 2 weeks.

Does the 1.60 driver fix the IP checksum PSOD AND the SmartLink problem?

Stuart McEwan | ‎11-16-2010 03:58 AM

Broadcom bnx2x driver (version 1.52) for ESX/ESXi 4.0 posted:

Can anyone tell me if this version now supports SmartLink/DCC and doesn't cause PSOD's under heavy load?

kIWIBIRCH | ‎11-17-2010 01:34 AM

Any idea when the new HP ESXi ISO will be posted that includes the Flex CNA FCOE Driver?

Kris F | ‎11-24-2010 01:00 AM

@Tom I've been told by HP the SmartLink issue is fixed with the latest Broadcom drivers. When will the HP image include these drivers?

Beovax | ‎01-04-2011 11:19 AM

Is there a plan to update this table with the new version that was released in December.

Thank you for posting this very helpful Smiley Happy

Jtaylor | ‎01-04-2011 06:10 PM

any updates to this for the Dec image release?

Jcouch | ‎02-21-2011 06:45 PM

When will HP release their version of  the 4.1 u1 esxi image? VMware released this 2 weeks ago.

Daniel Bowers | ‎02-21-2011 08:49 PM

@Jcouch It should be posted within a few days.

I just downloaded the lastest ESXi 4.1 image and tried using it on a C7000 with HP BL460C G7 blades.  I thought all was ok but when I try to clone something now or even to a migrate from local Datastore to local datastore we get the following in /var/log/messages...Any ideas?

I did download and checked with the HP Smart DVD Firmware update and it shows that the blade has all the current firmware versions...

HP ESXi 4.1 U1 image now posted.  All versions available from the same link: http://www.hp.com/go/esxidownload

Lawrance Lee | ‎03-01-2011 01:56 AM

Is there going to be an HP ESXi 4.1 (not U1) which will have these three driver versions for the G7 CNA

Ethernet - 400.2.103.377.0

Fibre Channel

iSCSI 2.102.525.9

Thanks in advance!

David Manconi | ‎03-01-2011 03:41 AM

Hi Daniel

Just querying when the table might be updated for the latets HP image for vSphere 4.1 update 1, with the drivers it includes from HP?

Is the table ever going to be added to the HP/VMware page as well. I have this bookmarked, but if you were looking for the table in anger it can be difficult.

David Manconi | ‎03-01-2011 09:57 PM

Hi Daniel

I see the table has been updated now, thanks for that.

Can you confirm that an HP vSphere ESXi 4.1 image will be shipped that DOES NOT include ESXi 4.1 update 1, but does include all the updates HP drivers please.

Looking at the update table above it seems to suggest a non ESXi 4.1 update 1 image will be made available, however when I check the download site at https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=HPVM06 it seems only the ESXi 4.1 update 1 image has been released for February.

Thanks David

There is a new version available:

4.1 U1 Apr 2011 ESXi HD-USB-SDImgeInstlr (Z7550-00096.iso)

Can you please provide information on what has been changed/updated?

Thanks Rotem
