HP BladeSystem achieves major security certification milestone!

HP marks a major achievement in the IT security realm with EAL4+ Common Criteria Certification for HP BladeSystem.  So what does this actually mean for HP BladeSystem customers? Let’s bring you up to speed on this area of secure computing and testing to worldwide standards, i.e. “Common Criteria”.

Solving the world’s need to procure secure IT products for government agencies. What is the need?

  • As an IT customer: you need reliable, tested IT products that are secure from a growing number of system and network threats - and you need them sooner, rather than later.
  • As an IT software manufacturer/vendor: you need a fast track for proving the security of your products for multiple major markets around the world.
  • As an IT security specialist: you need opportunities; niches where you can serve the market, helping it - and you - grow and prosper.

Fortunately, for all these three sectors - IT customers, vendors/manufacturers, and IT security specialists, the Government of Canada, along with a number of countries, have initiated a program to meet collective security needs by establishing the Canadian Common Criteria Evaluation and Certification Scheme, or - to use its short name - the CCS (Get more info here on CCS) A brief background of the CCS includes:

  • Governments in Canada, the US, UK, Netherlands, Germany, and France all reached the same conclusion: to speed the approval of much-needed IT security products - and maximize vendor opportunities - the traditional "test it in each country" approach needed to be reformed. That's why, in October 1998, five countries signed a Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) based on the Common Criteria and Common Methodology for IT Security Evaluation. Under the MRA, the results of a product evaluation conducted in one of these countries are automatically recognized in the others.

As the world leader in Converged Infrastructure, HP has worked with security certification expert, Corsec Security, Inc. in Fairfax, Virginia to evaluate, test, and certify HP BladeSystem products to the CCS standards. We at HP are proud to announce that the following products have completed this rigorous process:

  • Product:   HP BladeSystem c7000 and c3000 Enclosure with Onboard Administrator (running firmware version 3.71), Virtual Connect (running firmware version 4.01), and HP Integrated Lights-Out 3 (version 1.50)
  •  Developer: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
  • Common Criteria Evaluation Facility: CGI IT Security Evaluation & Test Facility
  • Conformance Claim: EAL 4+ (ALC_FLR.2)
  • Evaluation Completion: October 21, 2013

And even more importantly are the additional business benefits this brings to both HP public sector and private sector customers when choosing HP BladeSystem solutions for your company data center. You can now sleep easier knowing that your IT equipment has a built-in defense against those illegally looking to extract your company’s most value assets.
