Around the clock knowledge via the HP Enterprise Business Community

Any IT practitioner will tell you that on-the-job learning never stops. Technology is constantly evolving, and IT professionals must evolve at the same pace. One of the best ways to support this constant learning is through online practitioner communities, like the HP Enterprise Business Community.

The HP Enterprise Business Community (EBC) is an online forum where IT practitioners can ask and respond to questions, share opinions, tips, and tricks, and network. Discussion topics include categories like mobile, software, networking, and storage, as well as product categories such as workstations, desktops, or servers.

Show floor.jpgSome members of the EBC end up there because they have a question they need answered and feel compelled to stick around due to the quality of knowledge provided by the community. That was the case with Vadim Gordadze, a vice head of a department at I-Teco, where he serves as a technical team lead focused on integrations of HP Service Manager and consulting services (IT Service Management and ITIL).

“At some point, you’ll face something that is difficult to solve all by yourself. It’s much easier to find someone else who has done it already,” says Gordadze. “Many EBC members are HP employees and experts from partner companies.”

One such member who we ran into at HP Discover 2013 in Barcelona, Stephan Voss, has been working in IT for nearly 18 years. Voss, like many members of the EBC, has a deep knowledge of HP technology gained from 12 years working as a consultant for HP partner companies, focusing on project management, planning, design, and operation of data centers, business critical systems, enterprise storage systems, backup and recovery, and HP-UX. Now, Voss consults independently and participates in the EBC to keep his HP knowledge and customer connections alive. You can read about tips, tricks, and insights around HP-UX and other IT topics on Voss’s blog, HPUX.de.

Other members of the EBC get involved to stay up to date on HP products and services, such as Johan Guldmyr, a storage systems specialist at CSC - IT Center for Science. But Guldmyr also says that he participates in the community to serve as an asset and source of knowledge for other members. As an active member of the community, Guldmyr has earned “Honored Contributor” status with more than 3,700 posts and 520 kudos.

Guldmyr was able to build on his knowledge by attending HP Discover, which allowed him to see in person, for the first time, many HP products and technologies that he has actively helped with in the community. Guldmyr is also an active blogger and continues to assist others on IT and storage related issues. Visit Guldmyr’s blog at guldmyr.com/blog.

Gordadze and Voss each shared similar sentiments about the value they were gaining at HP Discover. For Voss, much of the value was also in seeing existing customers in person, as well as taking advantage of opportunities to meet new ones.

You can meet Voss, Gordadze, Guldmyr, and other technology experts on the HP Enterprise Business Community.

“[The EBC] provides a platform to exchange information with high-level specialists,” says Gordadze. “You can always learn something from someone there. It provides one good place for information, a library of knowledge, and access to experts.”

Join the HP Enterprise Business Community to see what you can find. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be the next Honored Contributor.

It was a great pleasure to meet you there and share experience about current state of EBC and its benefits.

Improvement of the forums is a live process and to ensure that we are all moving in the right direction we need user feedback about what can be done in EBC better or what must be changed, so feel free to expose your opinion in the corresponding branch of forum (Community feedback and suggestions)...
