Why Software-Defined Networking changes everything

Bethany Mayer, Senior Vice President and General Manager, HP Networking
What is Software Defined Networking, how it works and why it’s going to matter to every business
Software Defined Networking (SDN) is the most disruptive innovation to the network status quo in the last 40 years. It will transform how IT designs and manages networks, and it will revolutionize how you deliver applications and services to your business. With the most complete portfolio in the industry, HP has outlined the broadest vision for how to maximize the potential of SDNs. Bethany Mayer will help you not only understand what SDNs are and how they work, but most importantly, why they matter to your business.

HP Intelligent Management Center custom scripting
Aaron Paxson, Chris Young, Lindsay Hill

HP Intelligent Management Center (IMC) manages ~6,000 devices out of the box. What if your network includes devices that are not natively supported by IMC? We'll walk through how to create scripts for configuration management for a new device. We will also show how to add a button to IMC to run a custom function, such as clearing port-security alerts on a specific interface? We will show you how to do any other repetitive task that you'd like your helpdesk to be able to easily run, without needing CLI access. This session will cover script writing, debugging and troubleshooting. We will also introduce a public repository of custom scripts, developed by IMC users. These extend the functionality of IMC to support a wide range of devices.

Track keynote:

Embrace the future of data center networking
Bethany Mayer, Senior Vice President and General Manager, HP Networking
Conrad Menezes, Vice President, Network and Information Security, Sears Holdings Corp
HP is transforming the networking industry with the most complete software-defined network fabric. Sears is changing the way people shop. According to industry analysts, 30 years of network design principles have kept virtual network infrastructure at bay. This is constraining data centers as more than 80 percent of all traffic is between servers, and up to 80 percent of end-user traffic will move to the WAN by 2014. Preventing agility is the manual box-by-box administration of networks known as human middleware. Learn about data center networking innovations that simplify, scale and automate the network to enable virtualization, big data and cloud. Joining Bethany will be Conrad Menezes, vice president, Network and Information Security, Sears Holdings Corp. Sears deployed HP data center network solutions in creating a large-scale private cloud that is increasing agility to modernize the way people shop – at the store, online and in the home. Conrad from Sears will talk about their journey to a modern network so that its Members and customers can “Shop Your Way.”

Sessions:

BYOD the HP way
Erik Papir
Today’s IT Managers, directors and CIO’s are faced with increased challenges in managing the data explosion over their campuses while embracing and including BYOD. HP has taken a holistic approach to solving BYOD challenges by offering a broad solution that goes beyond secure access to the network. The HP unified BYOD solution is the industry’s only one to deliver secure device onboarding, provisioning, and monitoring, through a single management application.

How SDN promises to transform network provisioning for Microsoft Lync
Manfred Arndt, Mak Bhagwat, Pascal Menezes
Your network is key to unlocking the full potential of Microsoft Lync for Unified Communications and Collaboration. Configuring networks to deliver IP voice and video is a complex and tedious process with the box-by-box command line interface on today’s networks. The HP UC&C SDN application uses information passed from an SDN API developed as a proof of concept on the Microsoft Lync Server. What does this mean? Calls always have land-line clarity. Video is smooth, not choppy. PowerPoint presentations on a shared desktop transition smoothly. This is magic. Come hear from HP and Microsoft how this works and how you can get started today.

5 select criteria for DC vendors
Andre Kindness, David Newman, John Gray
Economic pressures have forced organizations to start architecting automated data centers, which require discrete components. Today’s network evolution demands a new architectural approach to the data center and a fabric that reduces network complexity and improves performance, scale and efficiencies while lowering expenses. In this two-part session, Forrester will share recent findings from “The Forrester Wave™: Data Center Networking Hardware, Q1 2013,” which offers a systematic approach to guide IT professionals as they evaluate data center networking vendors. Then, Network Tests’ David Newman will provide functional and performance testing recommendations that IT professionals should consider as they develop networking test plans. We will discuss 10/40 GbE fabric performance and scaling, network latency and resiliency and the implications of next-generation data centers when delivering cloud services.
