Good news for SMBs: Simplify IT for your mobile workforce. Start with networking.

By TerryAnn Fitzgerald, SMB Solutions Marketing Manager, HP Networking

If you have been following my blogs over the last year, you know that I’ve written about the growing SMB mobility  trend as well as the challenges of securing your network in a BYOD world.    Mobility is here to stay as the lines between the consumer world and the business world will continue to blur

.

This past week, HP announced simple IT network and infrastructure products and solutions to help your small and medium business to prepare for the application and data demands of your mobile workforce.  You can read more about this SME announcement here.

As part of this announcement, HP Networking introduced several solutions that help your business build a network that meets mobility demands but allow you to manage your network infrastructure in fewer steps so you can do more without big budgets and extra hours in the day.  Highlights include:

Now available for the HP MSR Series routers - 3G Wireless  and 802.11n Wireless LAN SIC modules.

A-MSR30-11F_B_1106.jpgThe HP MSR Series routers include the MSR900, MSR20-1X, MSR20, MSR30 and MSR50.  They are ideal for small to medium remote offices, main office, enterprise branch and regional offices.  The MSR Series routers deliver an all-in-one customizable platform that allows SMB organizations to design a solution that meets your unique business and IT requirements.  With HP MSR Series routers, all critical network devices – WAN router, Ethernet switch, Power over Ethernet (PoE), firewall, voice gateway and VPN – can be consolidated on one device.

SIC-WLAN_FL_0906.jpgWith the introduction of the 802.11n Wireless LAN SIC module and the 3G Wireless SIC module, you can support a mobile workforce while reducing capital, cost and complexity and simplifying deployment and management from the smallest SMB remote office to the main office/headquarters.

The 802.11n Wireless LAN module is a dual-band, dual-radio 802.lln access point that is backwards capable with 802.11a,b, and g that helps you easily migrate to 802.11n with increased performance and signal strength than 802.11 a/b/g to support a BYOD workforce.

The new 3G SIC module (supported on all modular MSR routers) and 3G USB modems (supported on all HP MSR Series routers) helps your SMB business take advantage of 3G Wireless as a low-cost, high-speed WAN/Internet connectivity solution for primary or backup access if a wired connection is not available. (Note: 3G SIC module is currently going through U.S. carrier certification.)

New form factor: HP 1910 8-port non-PoE and PoE+ Gigabit Switches with Lifetime Warranty

The existing HP 1910 switch series has had tremendous success in the smart-managed gigabit switch market, 1910_8G_PoE_65W_JG349A_LF.jpgsatisfying the small business need for simple, reliable and cost-efficient solutions for network connectivity.

With the introduction of the new HP 1910-8G models, HP acknowledges the demand from customers for a smaller form factor, an addition to the market-leading family of 24G and 48G versions.  The 8-port, fanless design is ideal for office and hospitality environments where advanced functionality is required, but silent operation is imperative.  The 8-port series includes the HP1910-8G switch and the HP 1910-8G-PoE+ (65W) Switch and the HP 1910-8G-PoE+ (180W) switch to support wireless access points, VoIP phones and IP surveillance cameras.

For the first time, IPv6 functionality available in the HP1910 Switch family.

This functionality allows the 1910 switches to operate in IPv6 environments ensuring small businesses a future proof network as the pool of IPv4 addresses dwindle.  For existing HP 1910G switch customers, the seamless upgrade requires no hardware replacements, network disruption and zero cost, allowing small business to future-proof their network.

Both products are available today.
