HP Networking WLAN Powers Brazil’s Curitiba Stadium for the World Cup 2014

By Mary Gabra, Manager, Sales Enablement, HP Networking

Mary GabraHP Networking provides the WiFi access to the fans watching the 2014 World Cup games at the Curitiba stadium, commonly referred to as Arena da Baixada. Curitiba is one of Brazil’s most modern and best-appointed stadiums. Four matches were hosted at this stadium during June with the attendance recorded at a maximum capacity of 42,000 people per match.

Powering this network is just one of the major points reinforcing the capability of the HP Networking’s unified wired and wireless LAN (UWW) solutions. HP’s UWW allowed these fans to seamlessly post photos, videos and comments on all social media platforms using their smart phones and tablets.

HP Networking’s response to customer requirements

Lemcon Americas is the system integrator contracted to provide WiFi to the Curitiba stadium. They chose HP Networking as the WLAN solution provider due to the completeness of the solution and the available local support—unmatched by other vendors. Lemcon Americas knew that with HP, they could deliver the solution in a short time with high quality products, and professional services as well as support. The HP solution was designed to provide service to 20% of the audience at once with approx. 9,000 concurrent users. The HP products provided the high density required for this high profile event.

A key advantage HP had over the competition was the unified wired and WLAN (UWW) solution. HP’s unified solution was appealing to the customer, especially with the ease of management that IMC provided.

Furthermore, Lemcon Americas valued the relationship with HP as an engagement in partnership that will support them for the next 10 years while they are servicing this stadium.

The HP solution deployed at Curitba included: HP 870 Unified Wired-WLAN Appliance, MSM430, MSM466, Outdoor Antennas, 7500, 5120, 5500, IMC and WSM. Additionally, HP’s TS Care Pack service provided professional services on configuration and installation. Just to give you an idea on what actually took place during the matches in June, the network reports showed that there was an average of 4,210 number of users connected to the system during the game with 20.9 GbE of traffic per hour.

HP Leadership in Unified Wired-Wireless Solutions

The HP Networking (HPN) commitment to addressing Lemcon Americas urgent needs, along with our unified wired and wireless portfolio as well as our local support gained the customer’s trust to give this highly visible project to HPN. In the recently published Gartner magic quadrant report for Wired and Wireless LAN infrastructure, HP placed in the leader quadrant (Register for the report here). The Curitiba stadium deployment is just one of many points reinforcing HPN’s wireless leadership. Learn more about the HPN unified wired and wireless portfolio atwww.hp.com/networking/Unified.
