HP Networking goes mobile and asks the question, “Are we smarter than our smartphones?”

By Ken Adams, HP Networking Web manager

ka_1.jpgDo you remember the show where adults were pitted against young children as they vied for the right to say, “I am smarter than a 5th Grader.”

I often reflect upon that show whenever I use my phone to answer a question. Now days, you can ask anybody anything and within a few clicks and swipes they can rattle off the answer. Which leads me back to my question, “Are we smarter than our smartphones?”

I am trying to remember the time before the smartphone. Many questions must have gone unanswered for hours, ending with late night calls back to our friends saying such things as, “Dude, Dana Plato was the actress on Diff'rent Strokes, not Facts of Life.”

Something more relatable might be, “Which small business, unmanaged switch wouldwork best for my network?” Or, “What the heck is OpenFlow?”

I am proud to say the answers to these and many more questions can be found just as easily as, “Who came first DickSargent or DickYork?”

What do you look for in a mobile experience?

Is simplified navigation enough or do you want the whole site to be mobilized? How much are you willing to read on the small screen? Do you read full product specs on your mobile device? Do you want or expect videos, demonstrations, podcasts and support chat as well?

Please leave your comments below. We’d love to hear from you.

hi, the mobile web pages look slick and are easy to navigate. however, they are product driven with only IT staff in mind. over the years i had to speak more about business and user experience to non IT execs. will HP offer web pages for these type of decision makers in the near future? CFO, MD, Sales Director etc

Hi Ton, thank you kindly for your feedback.

We do consider our solution pages to be more business oriented and not so product specific, although we do correlate the products to the solution as well.

That being said, your point is well taken as even the solution pages could be considered geared to the IT manager. I will bring the idea back to our director of solution marketing.
