HP Positioned as a Leader in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Wired and Wireless LAN Access, 2014

By Steve Brar, Manager, Global Product Marketing, HP Networking

Steve BrarLast week Gartner released its 2014 Wired and Wireless LAN Access Layer Magic Quadrant and I am happy to report that HP Networking is positioned in the leader’s quadrant for the third consecutive year.

Gartner Magic Quadrants rate vendors on “completeness of vision”, measuring on the horizontal axis with their “ability to execute”, and measuring on the vertical axis. The upper right quadrant is the leader quadrant.

HP in the Leader’s Quadrant

HP has maintained its leadership position in a fast-moving market that has seen several key technological advancements in the past year.

In the latest report Gartner states, “the access layer market continues to evolve from two separate decisions, one being wired and the other being wireless, to a single unified access layer decision.”

HP has been on the forefront of unifying the access layer in the enterprise campus network with our unified access offerings. I believe Gartner reinforces what I have been hearing from customers, they are looking for a simple, unified way to manage their wired and wireless networks.

Beyond Speeds and Feeds

In the Gartner report, there was one line that really struck a chord with me, “we are seeing fewer RFPs from client inquiries focusing on the speeds and feeds of access layer connectivity”

In reading that, I could see how HP’s vision is aligned with where the market is headed. I recently participated in a wireless infrastructure seminar series where I presented a session entitled, “Moving Beyond Speeds and Feeds: What's Your Wi-Fi Network Worth?”

In the session I shared HP’s portfolio of market leading innovations in unified wired & wireless technology as well as our longer term vision that combines software-defined networking (SDN) with our unified wired & wireless LAN strategy to extract more business value from the network and monetize the network.

While speeds and feeds are important, they are becoming table stakes. Customers are now looking for more value-add from their networks and want to have discussions around how the network will help their business compete and win in the marketplace.

I invite you to read more about how HP is delivering this value-add with innovative SDN solutions and new products such as our HP 5400R and Cloud-Managed Networking solution in these blogs:
