HP’s Vision and Strategy for Software-defined Networking (SDN)

By Newsha Sharifzadeh, Global Product Marketing Manager

ns.jpgWe’ve been following Jim Metzler’s SDN Journey series for the past few months and covered a lot of topics to educate everyone about SDN. Each video had an accompanying blog to show you point of view on each topic.

As we wrap up this journey, let me give you a quick overview on what was covered.

In the thirteenth and final video of the series, Jim sits down with Kash Shaikh (Sr Executive Director, HP Networking) to talk with Jim  about HP’s vision and strategy  for Software-defined Networking (SDN). The video can be accessed here.

Delivering complete SDN solution with open, standards-based technology

We at HP would like to offer our customers ‘openness’ with standard based technologies such as our SDN solution.  Customers can now choose from various technologies and vendors allowing them to create a solution tailored to their business needs. You can drive down your OPEX by automating and simplifying network provisioning and configurations with SDN applications.

What makes our strategy unique is our leadership in SDN that began back in 2008 – We now offer 50 OpenFlow enabled switches and as of 3 weeks ago, a robust SDN controller.  You can even get a free 60 day trial now.

Investment protection on your SDN Journey

Now that you’ve heard all about SDN and are thinking about commencing your own SDN journey, where do you start?

We recommend to invest in OpenFlow enabled switches and routers which provides you with investment protection. If you’d like to start right away, simply turn on OpenFlow or if you aren’t ready, you can turn it on in the future. As you begin on your SDN Journey, with OpenFlow enabled switches, IT organizations can find an open, standard-based complete SDN solution with HP Networking that will provide investment protection for what the future holds.

This is just the beginning …

This is just the beginning of your journey to endless opportunities. Applications are in the driver’s seat now!

If you are a vendor and have the knowhow to develop and sell software you will command a growing share of the market.  And if you are a customer using SDN applications, you can reap the benefits of an agile network by aligning the network with your business needs.

I can’t wait to see how SDN shapes the networking industry!
