“I’ll look into that” becomes reality: HP Press releases 2 titles on popular network certifications

By Rebekah Harvey, Director, Learning Product Management (AKA CertDoctor)

rebecca_harvey1.jpgQuite some time ago, I stood in a room of some of the best pre-sales architects in the networking industry and promised them that I would “look into” providing them with textbooks they could provide to prospective customers and that they could use for self-study.

Now you and I both know what “I’ll look into it” means in corporate speak.  Despite what it often means to the listener, “yeah right—that will get done when hell freezes over,” I’ve found that it means something different to every manager who has ever said it.  For some it does mean, “yeah right—when hell freezes over.”  For others it means “I’ll do a little digging and then report back that it’s not feasible.”  And for others, like me, it means “that sounds like a great idea, I wonder what it would take to make it happen?”

Making it happen—with the right publishing solution

I can tell you now, after “looking into it” for longer than I care to admit, it takes a lot.  It takes corporate backing. It takes funding. It takes legal guidance like you would not believe. It takes marketing support. It takes all manner of intricate details to make it work.  Perhaps most importantly, putting together the right publishing solution takes two things, the right people and the right content.  That’s the winning combination that helped get these first two books published by HP Press.

Right people

We were lucky and had one of the best program managers I’ve ever worked with who was able to finally pull it together.  Janice Foley has worked in various capacities in sales, training, and marketing throughout her career.  She’s recently moved into a new role within HP and has handed over the reins of HP Press to Michael Bishop, an experienced program manager in his own right, who will continue to build out our HP Press offerings.

We also got lucky and got some of the most knowledgeable subject-matter experts in the industry to work with us.  The first two titles were written by Richard Deal, Gregory Wayne Posey, Jr., and Jean-Maurice Merel, who have more than 80-years combined networking experience.

Right content

It also takes the right subject matter.  People are tired of learning about the same old, same old solutions.

Our first two titles, HP AIS Network Infrastructure and HP ASE Network Infrastructure, are preparatory guides for two of our most popular certifications.

In the future, you’ll see HP Press offerings that support other HP ExpertONE certifications, including those for Converged Infrastructure, servers, storage and more.  We are also expanding into technology titles that will have wide industry appeal for experts and aspiring experts alike.

I’ve just seen the draft outline for a “hot” new title that CIOs and IT professionals everywhere will be eager to get their hands on, written by a prolific author of technology books, Paul McFedries. And can I just say, I’m thrilled?

Hi,

That's great news - been looking forward to something like this for a while now.  Any news on availability in the UK?
