Mobility is taking to the air, lifted by networking innovation
By Kevin Secino, Mobility Product Marketing, HP Networking
I was flying high when I heard this news:Tokyo’s Haneda Airport is deploying HP’s MSM mobility technology. Before I get into some of the details about why and how Haneda Airport choose our mobility solutions, I would like to shine the spotlight briefly on our commitment to innovation in every aspect of networking, including mobility and wireless.
Engineering innovation
Much of the innovation that we are delivering to our customers when it comes to mobility and wireless solutions that—like the Haneda Airport MSM mobility deployment—is a direct result of some hard work and technical development that takes place across HP’s R&D engineering teams, including our R&D team in Montreal, Canada.
Customers in the education, healthcare and hospitality markets have taken advantage of the first to market MSM317. This compact and what I like to call “multifunction” access device was developed in our Montreal R&D Lab. Most recently, this team developed the first-to-market CRN award-winning MSM460/466 that provides industry standard dual 802.11n Wi-Fi capability providing three spatial streams with band steering and beam forming technology.
Close up on new mobility solution at Haneda Airport, Tokyo
It’s once again very exciting to see HP Mobility technology in action, solving customer business challenges. This was the case for Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. It’s the world’s fifth busiest airport handling more than 60 million passengers each year!
Haneda Airport deployed HP MSM Access Points in an area that spans more than 150,000 square meters (or 492,125.984 sq ft.) The airport was in in need of providing an instant-on enterprise to customers, like myself, want easy always-on connectivity, especially when traveling. You never know when a flight could be delayed and worse cancelled. These disruptions in your travel plans as we all know, can be very stressful. You need to get the most current information to make the best travel decisions possible.
I am not saying of course that HP’s mobility technology will prevent delays or flight cancellations! What I am saying is that here is yet another testament of the confidence Haneda Airport has in HP Networking solutions to provide the best possible wireless experience for the millions of customers that pass through this major international airport.
At Haneda, Wi-Fi covers nearly all areas of the terminals, which includes lounges and departure zones. The system also helps improve baggage handling and collection.
