Don’t limit solid-state storage performance

Solid-state storage technology is rapidly changing how many companies service critical applications.  We are in the early stages of a multi-year rollout of many new technologies and capabilities, including solid-state drives (SSDs) and high-performance data services software capabilities.  HP has already delivered a number of solid-state storage solutions, including the introduction of SSD support in our HP 3PAR arrays.

 

Scale-out and tier with the HP LeftHand P4900 storage system

 

Our newest solid-state storage example is the HP LeftHand P4900 all solid-state storage system. HP LeftHand is a unique and extremely simple storage platform that allows you to build a Storage Area Network out of storage nodes that can “scale out” from very small configurations to very large.  HP LeftHand storage software runs on HP ProLiant and HP BladeSystem server nodes, with a variety of disk drive configurations.  As your storage requirements grow, all you have to do is add more of these nodes to your storage network.

 

The new HP LeftHand P4900 system is a server node that uses all solid-state storage.  It can be added to any existing HP LeftHand storage network and will deliver a significant performance boost to those environments.  Alternatively, you could build a new storage network from just these P4900 solid-state nodes.  As requirements grow, you can just add more of these nodes, and the performance of the storage network will scale linearly.  The result can be an extremely fast storage network that was really easy to build.

 

One of the issues with solid-state technology is the lifespan of the drives, so we have included a new software feature called HP SMARTSSD Wear Gauge.  This allows the administrator to see how much life is left in the solid-state drives and get alerts when it is time to make a change.
