Take the stress out of storage with HP 3PAR StoreServ Flash Storage

It’s the New Year, and hands up if you overindulged over the holiday period? All of that rich food and festive cheer can catch up with you! Lots of people out there will be feeling the squeeze when getting dressed in the morning, but it’s guaranteed that the IT departments of many companies will have been feeling the strain for months already. Storage migration, crashes, unexpected bottlenecks in data flow. . . these really put the squeeze on the IT folks.

Gazing into the storage crystal ball

It’s been another busy year in the storage industry and the pace of change shows no sign of letting up in 2015. Most vendors have launched new and enhanced solutions designed to address the most pressing problems facing organisations today – shrinking budgets, expanding data types and volumes, and trying to align the IT organization with business priorities, amongst many other things. As our customers jostle for position in their respective markets and attempt to service their own customers in new, differentiated ways one unanimous truth has emerged – new business models require new thinking and new approaches. Here’s a summary of my storage predictions for 2015 and how they will help us to make this transition.

Don’t miss HP Storage @HPDiscover!

Everyone likes to keep on top of the latest trends and news from the world of technology, and there’s no better way to stay ahead of the crowd than to attend HP Discover in Barcelona. The event takes place from 2 – 4 December and will once again set the stage for exciting news from HP Storage. We’ll be unveiling new innovations in primary storage and backup, recovery and archiving (BURA). For a complete view of Storage happenings at Discover there’s an eAgenda available, and I’ve outlined my pick of the best below.

Enter the era of hyper-convergence

In previous blogs we have talked a lot about Converged Storage, the converged datacentre as a whole and the benefits many organisations are seeing as a result of adopting this strategy. We have also discussed the emergence of the software-defined datacentre as a key component of the convergence trend, and how for some businesses software-defined is enabling them to realise previously unreachable cost and flexibility gains. But if one thing is true of this industry, it is that change is a constant. We are now entering the next evolution of the software-defined story. It is called hyper-convergence, and is it is destined to be big!

Removing BURA bottlenecks

In my last post I talked about the key storage principles, and pointed out that irrespective of how technology evolves the underlying priorities remain the same: SLAs, cost and the operational environment. These fundamentals apply not only to primary and entry storage, but also to Backup, Recovery and Archive (BURA). BURA has been part of the overall storage landscape since the dawn of time, but it has often been treated like the poor relation. The result? BURA has become a bottleneck for many organisations, and that needs to change if storage is to truly align with wider business objectives.
