A Revolution at FOSE 2009: Driving Recovery Through Technology Innovation
Mike Feldman
Vice President and General Manager

IPG-Americas
Hi everyone and greetings from the 2009 FOSE Conference in DC!
This year's FOSE has been an incredibly energizing event for HP. To start, the event theme this year is 'Federal Power Meets Future Power'. HP stayed true to the theme by showcasing how the company is working to help government agencies drive economic recovery through technology innovation. We all know that IT is playing an increasingly central role in helping the government solve its toughest challenges. At FOSE, HP highlighted how federal agencies can reduce costs and mitigate risks, while they also implement green initiatives and enhance services.
HP backed this up with the introduction of a number of solid solutions to help agencies revolutionize the way government is administered --- helping them increase efficiency, secure information and drive down costs. FOSE attendees received a firsthand look at the following new HP technology solutions for the public sector:
• HP Access Control Smartcard Solution for U.S. Government - enables tighter security options with imaging and printing network authentication for government employees;
• HP Automated Data Removal Solution – streamlines the redaction process of documents through HP multifunction printers and scanners;
• HP Government Case Processing Accelerator Solution – facilitates the routing of sensitive data directly into business applications;
• Voluntary Product Accessibility Template – assists federal agencies using HP Exstream in their compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; and
• HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array 6400 and 8400 (EVA6400/8400) and the enhanced SAN Virtualization Services Platform 2.1 (SVSP 2.1) – expand HP’s storage virtualization portfolio.
If you're attending the event, I encourage you to stop by HP booth 1701, or click through to the online press kit for more info on how you can help revolutionize the way your agency is administered with HP's new solutions.

Top Ten Plus One: Ways to Cut IT Costs

An article in CIO Insight caught my eye this week. '10 Ways to Cut IT Costs' calls out measures that CIOs can
take to cut costs and improve efficiency during recessionary times. Reporter
David Kampfhammer lays out practical, actionable suggestions for CIOs struggling
to reduce the cost of IT and make it more efficient. Among his top ten are
suggestions that CIOs move IT offshore, use managed services and remote
management, and refocus costly resources.
All valid considerations. However, I would be as bold as to suggest adding
an 11th recommendation - 'Do not ignore the cost savings and efficiency to be
found within your printing and imaging infrastructure!'.
I've seen statistics that say every $1 spent on putting marks on paper
involves another $9 to manage it. Buyers Labs estimates that 90% of all
companies do not track printing costs. Combine this with the fact that
information doubles every 18 months, and the average worker spends 40% of their
time looking for information, and you can easily tally up the cost savings and
efficiency boost you would get with better optimization of your infrastructure
and management of your printing environment.
The good news is - HP can help.

HP Kicks Off National Retail Federation Event with New Retail Printing Solution
Mike Feldman

IPG-Americas
I just heard from Rock Wight, HP IPG WW Market Development Consultant for the
Retail and Hospitality Industries, who is onsite at this year's National Retail
Federation (NRF) trade show in the "Big Apple" -- one of the nation's largest
retail conferences. Even with the troubles facing the retail industry, Rock
reports that the show is one of the best he's attended in years and says the
buzz around HP's presence at the show has attendees fired up about the retail
industry in 2009.
I wanted to share with you the latest news that HP announced this week to
conference attendees around its HP Retail Printing Solution for retailers.
Geared specifically towards grocery and convenience stores, this solution has
the capacity, endurance and flexibility to print high quality promotional items
on vinyl stock - material poised to tackle the challenges of a busy retail
environment.
Think about all the signage you see in your local grocery store. From sales
and promotional signage down to the price tags and shelf labels, HP is offering
retail signage solutions that look sharp, have lasting appeal, help attract
additional customers and, ultimately, drive sales. And, that should get all
retailers excited these days! Based on feedback from our customers, HP
identified a major pain point for retailers and created a solution that
addresses the core values and goals of the grocer. Sometimes recognition alone
and one innovative concept can solve a simple and long-standing problem for a
customer. Now that is what I call a SMART solution.

HP Placed in Leaders Quadrant in “Magic Quadrant for MFPs and Printers” Report
Mike Feldman
Vice President and General Manager

IPG-Americas
I wanted to share some exciting HP news
stemming from a recent Gartner Report. HP is announcing its placement in the
Leaders Quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for Multifunction Products and Printers.
This comes on the heels of the MPS
Magic Quadrant where HP was also placed in the Leaders Quadrant.
As a brief re-cap for those that might not be familiar, the Magic Quadrant
positions vendors according to their “ability to execute” and their
“completeness of vision.” These reports are highly valued in the industry, and
we believe securing this position in the Leaders Quadrant reinforces our overall
value to current customers as well as potential customers looking to select HP
as a vendor.
So what exactly are the factors that Gartner assesses to qualify vendors for
placement in the magic quadrant? Vendors are assessed on criteria including:
products or services, sales execution and pricing, market responsiveness and
track record, marketing execution, customer experience, offering strategy,
business model, and geographic strategy.
We consider our placement as a leader to be a great accomplishment and again,
I credit the hard work from our people at HP, our partners and our customers. We
will continue to push ahead, setting industry leading standards and further
building and strengthening our portfolio.
Be sure to keep us on your radar for more exciting news coming out of HP.

ImagePrint 2008
I’m happy to report that ImagePrint 2008 was a tremendous success. This
year, we had a record number of enterprise customers and channel and solution
partners in attendance. Not only was it a great turnout, but everything from
the breakout sessions to the keynotes to the solutions showcase were first-rate
and we received extremely positive feedback from our customers and partners
alike. I have the privilege to work with many smart and talented people at HP
and really saw my team engaging at all levels.
At every turn I was hearing from customers that this event made a difference
and that they are going to take immediate action on building their Print 2.0 plans,
which allow them to save money and improve their business processes just by
assessing their imaging and printing environment. For those already down the
path of optimizing
their infrastructure and/or managing
their environments, they wanted to extend their plans by improving
their workflows and streamlining their imaging and printing operations.
Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s event.
