Recently I hosted the Industrial Internet Consortium Energy Summit on the HP campus in Houston, Texas. Many energy and technology professionals were assembled to discuss the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) in general, and exciting applications on the verge of realization. The Industrial IoT includes tactics such as putting sensors on a welding machine, a jet engine, an x-ray machine, trains, and a turnstile, gathering data to make better decisions, such as when to do maintenance, optimize energy usage, or increase staff. Expert speakers expounded on subsets of the Industrial IoT, which include the Smart Factory, Machine Condition Monitoring, Automated Test and Measurements, and Facilities Maintenance.
