Do you know how "exploration" is helping CIO's understand Cloud Computing?

In my weekly read in Information Week Global CIO I learned more about how  CIO’s are not just jumping into the cloud computing circle but described as “exploring” it more.  In  an article written by their VP and Chief Editor, Rob Preston he reported on CIO top challenges.  Some of Mr. Preston’s work is self-described as a global survey of knowledge over years of interviews and consulting with CIO’s to understand their top  challenges.  Mr. Preston extracted themes he put into a top 10 listing.   You can read the entire list in the Information Week Global CIO tab

I found No: 9 (listed in inverse order) to be very relevant to past points of view I have shared in my blog focus. In the CIO top 10 Priorities listing,  No: 9 was listed as CIO’s Explore Cloud Computing.    This reference of exploration was described by Mr. Preston as such: “Note that I didn't say "embrace" the cloud. Companies still have a lot of exploring to do, and obstacles like security and compliance to overcome, before they'll make major investments in software, infrastructure, and platform as a service. But don't dismiss cloud computing as just hype. The research also reported that some of The top benefits are: ease and speed of implementation and upgrades; the ability to scale up and down quickly; and the ability to eschew some supporting capital investments.  This kind of exploration and search for a practical experience before investing integrates very well with what HP Enterprise Services can offer customers.  How can HP help you make it matter?

HP Enterprise Cloud Services – Virtual Private Cloud provides server, storage, network and security bundles you consume as a service. Ortega,

This is a very good article and definitely shows your awareness of your industry and how it applies to the value of the services offered by HP.  My company is not yet using Virtual Cloud's; however, once we are positioned with our clients to offer such services, I will definitely reach out to you.  Keep up the great work!

Ortega,

Great post.  Exploring various options including cloud are certainly key steps that CIOs must take.  Should they go this route, it is critical that they have a well-defined mechanism in place to track the ROI on Cloud Computing   This will ensure that they are ready to answer the Cloud ROI question when it is posed by key stakeholders.
