The Valentines of Enterprise IT

Come Valentine’s Day, I will get ready to make my candle-lit dinner reservations (with the bottle of champagne in the ice-bucket and a bouquet of fresh roses for my spouse), I eagerly look forward to a quiet evening with her, and am thankful for how she completes me in achieving our goals – as a couple – as partners. Just like us, there are many such “Valentine Pairs” who may very well set aside precious moments to recognize this vital relationship on February 14. Such mutually dependent partnerships are not unique to our personal lives. Competitive enterprises of the future must ensure that similar partnerships are in place to make it all relevant. Here’s wishing these New Style of Partnerships a very Happy Valentine’s Day!

Business & IT. This may very well be the mother of all partnerships for enterprises. This alignment must be in the DNA of the enterprise, which is why it’s no surprise that CIOs are so done with alignment! It is second nature to them now; showing all the mature signs of a well-honed relationship over the years.

CIO & CMO. CIOs must have a System of Engagement with the CMOs – a relationship that would enable predictive analytics to drive systemic automation through the enterprise.

Data & Information. I can almost hear the voice of Big Data whispering: “Hello, Information! Want to be my Valentine? Let’s get the big picture

Wearables & Smartphones. Wearables and Smartphones are companionsJohn Dodge relates in this ECIO Forum post. He explains how wearable tech can change the smartphone as we know it.

HP & Intel. New Style Partnerships, such as the one between HP and Intel, extend across enterprises innovating education for the next generation.

I am intrigued by all these partnerships at play in my workplace; making me wonder if I should have a Work Valentine. Taking that thought a step further, I wonder who that would be. And, after giving it a lot of thought, I zero in on The New Style of IT.

Hypothetically, if the New Style of IT were my Valentine:

I would have picked her up at 7 PM on Valentine’s Day in the Mobility Limousine for dinner at the Enterprise Transformation Hotel on the Converged Cloud in Secure City where Big Data would be served up in the Innovation Suite.

But the New Style of IT is not a person …

So, on Valentine’s Day, I will have an old style, candle-lit dinner with the only person who makes it all real for me every day – my dear wife.

Nothing hypothetical about that!

How about you? What are other partnerships that make it relevant in the New Style of IT? Please let me know.

And while you are at it – Let me wish you a very happy Valentine’s Day.
