The Valentines of Enterprise IT

Come Valentine’s Day, I will get ready to make my candle-lit dinner reservations (with the bottle of champagne in the ice-bucket and a bouquet of fresh roses for my spouse), I eagerly look forward to a quiet evening with her, and am thankful for how she completes me in achieving our goals – as a couple – as partners. Just like us, there are many such “Valentine Pairs” who may very well set aside precious moments to recognize this vital relationship on February 14. Such mutually dependent partnerships are not unique to our personal lives. Competitive enterprises of the future must ensure that similar partnerships are in place to make it all relevant. Here’s wishing these New Style of Partnerships a very Happy Valentine’s Day!

The New Style of IT brings movies to a theater near you

When I go to the movies, I walk in, settle down into world of imagination and walk back out into reality. Annual events like the Sundance Film Festival provide us an opportunity to obtain insight into what it takes to bring movies to a theater near you. Today, technology makes the unimaginable real. Join me in this walkthrough of how these technologies make movies real in each phase of this transformation journey.

Herbert also oversees the Shared Service Group, which provides infrastructure shared services and corporate application support for multiple business units. Fox’s business has undergone a transformation – from physical to digital distribution, film to digital cinema, tape delivery to digital file delivery. This has driven Fox’s IT environment to go through a transformation of its own – to deliver at the pace of business. Let’s see how:

First Webjam—Impact of Cloud Computing on our job descriptions

You might not know this, but I co-chair the Cloud Governance Project within The Open Group—one of the many projects on the Cloud Work Group’s roster. Recently, the Cloud Work Group introduced the concept of a webjam—an informal way for members with a common interest to have an interactive brainstorm or debate—on a topic of their choice for some of its monthly sessions. The webjam is open to all members of the Cloud Work Group projects. Think of it as a panel discussion—except everyone on the call is part of the panel! I recently coordinated the first-ever webjam for our group. We used, "What will Cloud do to your resume?" as a topic.
