Enterprise Architecture done right drives Enterprise Transformation

Eric Sweden, Program Director, Enterprise Architecture & Governance, NASCIO will be delivering one of the keynotes in the Plenary Session of The Open Group Conference in Philadelphia. I read the abstract for his keynote with great interest. Sweden asserts “Enterprise Architecture” provides an operating discipline for creating, operating, continual re-evaluation and transformation of an “Enterprise.” Not only do I agree with this assertion, but I would add that the proper creation, operation and continuous evaluation of the “Enterprise” systemically drives its transformation. Let’s see how.

Wishing the Enterprise Architect of our family a Happy Father’s Day

I come home, after attending HP Discover 2013 Las Vegas, and it is Father’s Day weekend. A time when we acknowledge the efforts our fathers have put into architecting our lives by instilling foundational principles that withstand the test of time. Just like a good Enterprise Architect. These are principles I draw upon when facing the next big challenge in the transformation journey we call … very simply … life. These architectures sustain us over time. Perhaps Enterprise Architects can take a cue from Dads?

Architecting your experience at the hospital

Have you been admitted to a hospital lately? I hope not, because I wish you good health. However, if you have been there, note that your experience is underscored by the complex machinery of the healthcare industry at work. This industry is riddled with the challenges of uncontrolled medical costs, legislative pressures, increased plan participation, and improved longevity of individuals. These challenges are not that different from those faced when defining a comprehensive enterprise architecture.
