Cloud integration – a new platform for innovation

Cloud integration is the “third era” of IT according to Mike Nefkens, EVP of Enterprise Services at HP, in this article, How a garage-based start-up is once again redefining the way companies do business.  The agility of a Cloud based infrastructure positions enterprises to deliver on the demands of the digital customer in this new era.  Nefkens takes the example of airlines where disparate applications for reservations, baggage and flight operations do not interact with each other when there is a crisis that demands instant response.  Transforming these applications to the cloud enables seamless integration thereby driving a timely response to the customer. But, are such intersections of different domains just integrations – or can they be new platforms for innovation? Let us see.

Service Technology cements the connection between SOA and Cloud Computing

For a while now, I have been blogging about service-oriented architecture (SOA) principles being a powerful foundation for the evolution to cloud computing. In fact, Forbes blogger, Joe McKendrick picked up on this and referenced it in his ZDNet post on 5 signs that SOA has morphed into cloud. So did The Open Group in this article on the Top 5 tell-tale signs of SOA evolving to the Cloud. In other words, there is widespread agreement on the close connection between SOA and cloud computing. So, when I came upon McKendrick's post on Before There Was Cloud Computing, There was SOA, I was wondering what else there is to be said on this subject -- especially from someone who has already highlighted this connection several times across various posts.
