Intel excels at the heart of HP Discover

I have been witness to the Intel-HP partnership at past HP Discover conferences. HP Discover 2014 is no exception. As I peruse the Intel sessions at this conference, DT4067 by Rich Nockels, Intel Marketing Manager stands out for me. It highlights how HP and Intel are bridging the gap between users and IT, with a new wave of devices that users will want to use for both work and play. Users like myself, who are planning on dressing up with wearables for this conference. I read more into this session because I see an emerging theme, reinforced by other Intel sessions, punctuating the HP-Intel partnership. It is a partnership with Intel at the heart, which manifests itself from various perspectives at HP Discover. 

Looking at the data—through Google Glass—to view the information

After having checked out the Cloud, Security, and Mobility tracks at HP Discover, I look at Session DT 3809 on how Google Glass can be used to view information that matters. Reading the abstract, I get several ideas of how this “thing” can make a difference, across various industries, in the new world of Internet of Things (IoT). For instance, Beth Isreal Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) CIO John Halamka, explains the benefits of physicians adorning Google Glass who look at their patients while viewing their information. This is Google Glass applied to the healthcare industry. Like Big Data and Cloud, IoT has its own way of making a difference across industries. Let’s look at the scenarios below to view the related information.

To be or not to be your own device at HP Discover

Marc Wilkinson, HP Chief Technologist, Mobility & Workplace, suggests a different acronym for the Bring Your Own ecosystem. Asking if the “Bring Your Own” paradigm is unraveling, Wilkinson suggests that it is a “Bring Your Own Stuff” world. All these devices – fueled by the world of wearables – is, at the end of the day – defining the persona of the individuals concerned. Just like Software is the new Brand that defines the Digital Customer Experience, the “stuff” that Wilkinson refers to defines the individual. Thus, it is more about “Being” rather than “Bringing” your own device – a message that clearly comes across when I review the HP Discover sessions on the Mobility Track. Join me as I consider “Being My Own Device” at HP Discover.

Internet of Things (IoT) matters at HP Discover

“You ain't seen nothin' yet,” is the phrase that comes to mind when I take a look at the HP Discover sessions on Internet of Things (IoT). Big Data mattered at past HP Discover conferences, but IoT is going to take it to the next level as projected in multiple sessions at HP Discover. Discover Theater session DT3621 from HP Labs discusses how the appliances in our homes, and the environment around us, generate data that must be harnessed and mined across the fabric of connected devices. At the same time, I am presenting on the on the impact of IoT on IT in a different Discover Theater session – DT3503. While gearing up for this session, I am reminded of a recent Twitter Chat, coordinated by the Enterprise CIO Forum, where it was abundantly clear that IoT is bound to matter to CIOs. Here are some of the key reasons why.
