21st Birthday of HP Serviceguard Brings Integration Advances for SAP, 3PAR, DB2 Customers

balloons.JPGIt’s Serviceguard’s 21st birthday!  Wow!  That deserves a standing ovation, doesn’t it?  How incredible is it, that in today’s day and age, we still have a very relevant product being used today providing high availability solutions to some of the world’s largest organizations?  So let me take another minute to brag.  HP-UX with Serviceguard has been ranked as the leader in observed high availability in the UNIX market by The Gabriel Consulting Group since 2007!

Not familiar with Serviceguard?  Well, let’s take a quick look back at Serviceguard’s history.  Serviceguard was introduced to the market 21 years ago as one of the first clustering solution providing high availability, data integrity, and performance for business critical applications.  Over the years, Serviceguard has evolved substantially becoming a tightly integrated HA solution, designed for use with HP’s Integrity servers.

So now I’d like to share some highlights of the recently announced enhancements for Serviceguard on August 30, 2011.

As HP continues to grow its solutions, so does the integration of Serviceguard with these new products.  This past year saw 3PAR storage array products added into our storage portfolio.  We’ve added Serviceguard Metrocluster and Continentalclusters support for HP 3PAR Remote Copy, offering synchronous data replication and automated failover to minimize downtime in the event of a site disaster.

Another feature enhancement is for our DB2 customers.  We’ve worked closely with IBM coupling Serviceguard and DB2 HADR enabling administrators to easily maintain and protect their IBM DB2 databases by switching from the primary database to the backup without downtime.

This release also enhanced our support for SAP customers as well.  Serviceguard now supports Web Dispatcher, an SAP module that provides continuous request processing over the internet with load balancing.  New cluster deployment and verification tools streamline the process of setting up Serviceguard in an SAP environment.

In summary, Serviceguard solutions and its customer base continues to grow.  The newest version 11.20, released less than a year ago, continues momentum as the integration across a broad mix of ISV solutions increases.  For the latest enhancements to Serviceguard, please check out the following:  http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/w1/en/os/hpux11i-serviceguard-solutions-overview.html
