The champagne flowed and a string quartet played music amidst the beautiful surroundings at the Hotel Imperial in Vienna for the 2011 Mission Critical Innovation Awards, presented by HP and Intel.  Our own Martin Fink, GM and Senior VP of HP's Business Critical Division presided over the evening, along with Peter Gleissner, Director of EMEA Sales from Intel.

Out of all of our finalist nominees,  Gravic, PinkRoccade Healthcare, University Hospitals and Secure64 were recognized as award category winners for leveraging HP and Intel technologies to address mission-critical computing challenges while achieving new levels of reliability, availability and scalability with some of the world’s most complex applications.  Congratulations!

Mr. Gleissner summed it up well: “These winners are the cream of the crop and we commend them for taking innovation to the next level.”

WINNING SOLUTIONS

Mission-Critical Data: Gravic

A large Canadian bank reengineered its data center architecture with HP Integrity NonStop NS16000 systems and the Shadowbase product suite from Gravic, Inc., lowering the bank’s planned outage time from hours to minutes. The update also reduced system recovery time for unplanned outages by more than 95 percent.  In the event of an unplanned outage, the bank can rapidly restore ATM/POS application services, minimizing customer disruption.

Converged Data Center: PinkRoccade Healthcare (PRH)

Netherlands-based healthcare IT solutions provider PRH improved patient care with HP Integrity BL870c i2 and BL860c i2 server blades running HP-UX.  As a result, PRH’s data center provides application hosting, simplifying management and improving support for its clients. In addition, customers quickly and easily access the critical applications needed to better serve their patients.

Humanitarian and Environmental Impact: University Hospitals (UH)

UH leveraged HP Integrity rx7640, rx6600 and rx2660 servers running HP-UX to provide continuous availability of radiology reports and images, across all of the health system’s facilities utilizing software from radiology information technology provider and HP partner Sectra. UH worked with HP and Sectra to design, configure and install an online storage and Disaster Recovery site that eliminated downtime, enabling UH to deliver consistent, quality patient care.

Best New Application: Secure64

Secure64 was recognized for its Secure64 Domain Name System (DNS) Cache software, which provides security, availability and performance for communication service providers. The solution offers protection from the latest security threats and vulnerabilities, including rootkits, malware, and denial-of service attacks. Running exclusively on HP Integrity systems, Secure64 DNS Cache delivers five times the performance of open source BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Domain), the widely-used DNS offering.
