Develop and deploy mission-critical Java applications on HP-UX with JBoss EAP

There are a number of significant market forces coming together today that have accelerated the need for robust, reliable and cost-effective enterprise middleware. Cloud is a good example, as the debate quickly evolves from “Why?” to “How?” At the same time, more and more apps are considered mission-critical by companies, as instant access to information becomes a de-facto expectation by consumers and workers alike. Add these to the increasingly distributed nature of enterprise systems and you have a good case for modern and flexible middleware for mission-critical applications.

Enter Red Hat. Red Hat offers a full stack of open middleware technologies designed to help enterprises accelerate, integrate, and automate the development and deployment of their applications. The company provides its middleware across the HP Servers portfolio, and we’re happy to share the news that it has recently expanded the availability of its Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) on HP servers, with versions 5.2 and 6.0.1 now available on HP Integrity servers running HP-UX 11i v3. Combining JBoss EAP with HP-UX provides a dynamic, enduring, and unified environment for customers to quickly develop, deploy and host mission-critical applications on a stable, integrated, and resilient platform.

What this means is that you now have an avenue to upgrade to the latest and most modern JBoss EAP architecture. If you are using older versions of JBoss EAP on HP-UX, or, if you are running costly and complex proprietary middleware, there is now a cost-effective enterprise-class alternative. HP-UX will continue to give you the peace of mind and low risk you’ve come to expect, while also getting mission-critical open source middleware to meet your application needs.

"HP recognizes JBoss Enterprise Application Platform as the premier middleware platform for customers running HP Servers with HP-UX and Linux, enabling them to quickly and effectively develop, deploy and manage Java applications, providing faster time to market, enhanced developer productivity, and reduced TCO," says Randy Meyer, vice president and general manager, Integrity Servers, Hewlett Packard.

"In the market of real-time applications, traditionally most of our customers rely on the capabilities of HP-UX in terms of stability and reliability. With the newly released version of JBoss EAP on HP-UX, we are able to continue developing and deploying our products by using state-of-the-art technology at great value," added Michael Haase, senior product solution architect, Orga Systems GmbH.

JBoss EAP brings a rich feature set to provide your developers with the tools they need to quickly, easily, and efficiently develop Java EE 6 compliant applications and services, including lighter profiles, embedded testing, and improved developer tooling. Enterprise features for Clustering, Caching, Messaging, Transactions, and Web services are included to help users achieve improved developer productivity and faster time to market. According to an IDC study on the business value of JBoss EAP sponsored by Red Hat, six Red Hat customers using JBoss EAP realized 569 percent ROI over a three-year period with initial payback in less than six months after the platform was fully deployed; they also experienced more efficient application development, resulting in the ability to develop 51 percent more applications per year; last but not least, they reduced infrastructure costs by 65 percent during application development, and reduced management costs by 89 percent post deployment.

With these numbers, it is no surprise that more customers are adopting JBoss EAP as their middleware of choice. Add that to the reliability and stability provided by HP-UX for the last 30 years, and the result is mission-critical middleware for your most vital applications.
