How to lower IT costs & get more freedom while protecting your IT with HP Serviceguard

As a follow-up to our Project Odyssey announcements from last November, where we laid out our vision for revolutionizing mission-critical, I have some exciting updates I’d like to share with you about HP’s continued investments in HP-UX and Integrity, specifically, in the High Availability area.

In March, we announced our release of Serviceguard A.11.20 patch. In this update we’ve included several enhancements that will allow you to enjoy a broader set of choices and greater freedom at a lower cost while protecting your IT infrastructure with Serviceguard.

  • First, we’ve extended Serviceguard to help you reduce storage costs.

You can now configure highly available, mission-critical applications with HP Serviceguard, and take advantage of shared, low-cost iSCSI storage, such as the HP P4000 G2 SAN devices. This means that you can get Serviceguard protection with the ability to use less costly storage.

  • Second, we’ve extend protection of virtual partitions and virtual machines in Serviceguard.

Recently we released a new virtualization release: HP-UX vPars and Integrity VM v6.1.  Serviceguard high availability now protects these new types of virtualization solutions.

With this update, you can get failover protection of VMs and vPar applications and the ability to use Serviceguard to deploy virtual partitions or Virtual Machines in packages within the Serviceguard toolkit.   This makes migrating vPars offline easier, with a simple drag and drop functionality.

  • Third, we’ve expanded Serviceguard’s database protection capabilities to include more database types

Now you can enjoy the freedom to protect all major SAP databases, including Sybase ASE 15.7, and still have full HA protection with HP Serviceguard.  You can also benefit from this by using the Easy Deployment feature set that SGeSAP provides, now with Sybase ASE 15.7.

  • Finally, another new feature we’ve added is more database flexibility for Enterprise DB PPAS

In this update, Serviceguard protection is now extended to EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus Advanced Server (PPAS), allowing you to benefit from a lower cost database with mission-critical high availability.

Serviceguard is a robust, high availability solution, and with these new enhancements, you have more choice in the database that best fits your needs—whether it is Oracle DB, Sybase ASE, IBM DB2 or EnterpriseDB.
