Next-Generation HP NonStop Puts the World on Autopilot

Introducing the HP Integrity NonStop NS2300 and NS2400

The HP NonStop division is proud to offer a new series of HP NonStop Integrity entry-class platforms. As the manager of the NonStop Product management team, I am excited to announce that we now have the whole Integrity NonStop portfolio running the latest Intel® Itanium® 9500 series processor. This new family of NonStop entry-class servers (the NS2300 and the NS2400s) continues to provide 100% NonStop value as they were designed to deliver the same high-level of availability and data integrity as our high-end HP Integrity NonStop BladeSystem NB56000c and NB56000c-cg systems. Another exciting element of this announcement is that all the NonStop systems from entry-class to the high-end run on the same J-series NonStop OS software!

Now that we have the current portfolio of NonStop servers all running on the same CPU base technology it’s going to lead to improvements in the HP converged infrastructure strategy, NonStop platform manageability and other OS functionality.

If you're running S-series NonStop servers, now would be an excellent time to consider migrating to one of these new entry-class NonStop servers. For customers running J-series NonStop production systems, these new platforms are ideal for development testing or expanding a disaster recovery infrastructure.

The new servers are rack mounted and offer excellent investment protection with in-rack upgrades of like to like servers. The NS2300 is licensed and enabled for 1-core operation and the NS2400s are licensed and enabled for 2-core operation. All models of the new servers can be configured with up to 4 CPUs (each with 16, 32 or now 48GB of main memory).  They also come with embedded Ethernet & Cluster I/O Modules (CLIMs) and provide clustering via Expand-over-IP. The various packaging options include 36U and 42U commercial racks as well as a 36U seismic rack. They run on the J06.17 level NonStop operating system.

Not only are these systems the most affordable configurations in the HP Integrity NonStop portfolio, but we are now offering connectivity for NonStop systems to the HP StoreOnce line of products with the newly introduced HP NonStop BackBox Virtual Tape Controllers. The new NonStop VTC products also allow you to connect to any NAS storage you may already have installed. The previous generation of Virtual Tape Storage (VTS) is nearing the end of its sales life so this is a good time to think about upgrading to a more state-of-the-art solution. The industry is quickly moving away from using tape backup exclusively so if you’re still hanging tapes and searching for the right tape to mount for data recovery, the new VTC and StoreOnce combination is hard to beat. It makes backup automation easier to perform and you can centralize backup storage while utilizing modern technologies and techniques like federated deduplication solutions which can help you avoid data space upgrades for years while providing industry-leading backup speeds that will blow your socks off.

These new platforms not only meet the most demanding needs of standalone applications and emerging markets but they set the standard and it’s a very high bar. Most other aspects of these new servers remain unchanged from the previous generation so upgrading current similar servers in your environment is even easier. There are no changes to the way software licensing works, base hardware bundle product structures, rack, power and infrastructure, or I/O using Gen 8 CLIMs: IP CLIMs (for Ethernet), Telco CLIMs (for Telco protocols such as Streams, SIP, and Diameter), and Storage CLIMs that support the NonStop storage subsystem with hard disk drives and enterprise class solid state drives.

If you would like to learn more about how the fully-virtualized, tightly-integrated HP NonStop architecture delivers hardware and software fault-tolerance, along with modern frameworks, system-wide security, and a comprehensive selection of modern management and development tools for many industries, we will be featured in several sessions and showcasing the new HP Integrity NonStop NS2400 with BackBox VTC in the Mission Critical expo demo area at HP Discover Las Vegas 2014.

Be sure to register today and take advantage of great hands-on experience with lots of products and solutions delivered by the mission critical team. In addition, converse face-to-face with the experts that built the systems and participate in sessions and demos that cover the entire mission critical portfolio, including: HP NonStop, HP NonStop Telco products, HP Integrity servers, HP-UX, OpenVMS, HP Project Odyssey and Mission Critical x86.
