Written by Rohini Madhavan
HP announced the support of OpenVMS v8.4 on HP Integrity rx2800 i2 server on February 14, 2011. HP Integrity rx2800 i2, the latest addition to their new Integrity Systems portfolio, is a two-socket rackmount server. OpenVMS V8.4 on rx2800 i2 servers is ideal for branch offices and departments in addition to large and medium enterprise data centers.
With the rx2800 i2 servers, HP OpenVMS customers can take advantage of compact scaling in a 2U footprint that enables them to run a range of mission-critical applications in either a racked or desk-side configuration. The rx2800 i2 server achieves operational excellence by simplifying data-center administration using HP’s Integrated Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3)and HP Insight Control server management. The server uses common parts and shares the same power supplies, fans, and chassis design as the ProLiant family of servers and technologies like Thermal Logic, Sea of Sensors which in turn leads to achieve Converged Infrastructure & leverage your existing rackmount investments.
The rx2800 i2, equipped with the latest Intel® Itanium® 9300 series processors, is an Energy Star compliant server.
Key features of OpenVMS V8.4 that are available since June 2010 and will now also be available on rx2800 i2 servers are:
- HP Integrity Virtual Machine guest support
- Clusters over TCP/IP
- Volume Shadowing with an increase of upto six member disks
- Improved application performance by upgrading to OpenVMS V8.4 on quad-core processors

These are fine systems and I hope they sell well.
I would like to see more stories of OpenVMS customer systems, particularly new ones.
I know there are more OpenVMS systems out there than are mentioned in public but there must be some that can be talked about.
